So goose, check it out. Chopped most larger ladies last night to try & let the bottom nodules fill out.

I had snipped a little branch about 4 days ago & hung her up to do her thang.

Of course, it was a little red headed-step child lookin branch from the Pyramid auto (the freebie).

And guess what.......

i got absolutely ripped outta my goard on MY own shiz. Ahh, twas a wonderful night.

Got the fat girls hanging in a box w/ that 4" inline fan (just exhaustin & gettin passive intake), nothin directly on those beasts).

Oh yeah, then rolled up a little goo ball off of the trimmers I was usin. Def. tasted like some of the betta sheesh i ever burned.

TERRIBLY HAPPY GOOSE.

Can't wait for these gals to finish & get photos into system.

Stand by, ya know I'll need ya.

Thanks again 4 everything u hav done for me my friend!

stg inserts suck.. i was saved from using them.. almost wasted the money on them myself... sorry you got stuck using them..

the nutes might be ok.. veg for sure.. its just flowering im a little worried about.. can you get some sort of actual flowering nute?? just want to make sure they are getting what they need..

set the fan up to pull rather than push.. if it pushes and there are any leaks in the duct it will cause air to leak from that hole.. but if its pulling all the leaks just become additional exhaust holes...

I will be only using veg nutes for quite a while as I am waiting for the plants I have now to sex so that I can clone and have mothers, so when I flower I will get appropriate high quality nutes, not for at least a month or two from now (though I am gonna do some experimental 12/12 from seed as a side thing and perhaps make some seeds) and I am going to try coco for media in my main veg/clone grow and so will use the flowering nutes that are appropriate when the time comes.

So with the fan/filter, are you saying I need to have the filter in the grow room? I was hoping I could set it up outside of it in a seperate room due to space, if not I will have to make a 90 degree in the duct.

I lost 60 seeds due to the stg starter cubes!:wall: Lucky I am using bagseed!:-P Only now I have only about 30 left from what I saved over the last few years. I started a thread to see if any peeps have had success with stg, and not one peep said yes! I am using some of their slab material now with 2" rockwool cubes only because it is all I had, and they work but not optimum by any stretch. With the starter cubes the seeds expend so much energy trying to set roots that they become exhausted and die. Out of 60 seeds I have one surviving plant and that seems to be only because it seems to be especially vigorous, so I hope it is a fem as I think it would clone well (just guessing). Stg set me back a solid month!

Thanks for your help and this thread Sam! I hope it is and you are here for help through my grow as I trust your advice.:-P

congrats on the success bro.. always glad to hear these kinda stories...

big question i gotta ask is have you found any seeds?? they would be busting out of their sacs by now...

im happy for ya bro... glad to have helped ya out!

ok.. that makes sense... glad to hear that!!

ok.. the fan should pull air regardless... but you want to pull air through the filter... so the filter needs to go before the fan... but either way you want the fan to be pulling air... a 90 degree bend is not ideal... so you may have to push the air.. but its better to have it pulling...

glad to help bro

i have a question. when do you introduce pollen to make seeds? what stage of flower, or week?
in flowering.. maybe around week 3.. when you can start to see flower formation..

OH yeah, i got beans. They aren't awful I suppose, all things considered. Obv. woulda been WAY cooler sans the beans. But hey, I'm gonna collect 'em & gift em out or something.

Fortunately, they seem to only be at the very bottom of the bud, so they are lookin fairly easy to pick out. Most are fallin out inside of the drying box. So I just pick em up from inside there when they finished.

I chopped & hung up the most diesel lookin nodules Monday night, gonna finish the chop tonight & get photo girls in the system & under HID tomorrow.

I'll throw up some chop pics here this weekend.

I've read so many damn theories for he dry.

Were you a proponent of dryin in box & then movin to brown paper bags from grocery store?

Or are you a dry in the box & straight into mason jars?

Kinda like straight into the mason jars, as it seems like the paper bags are just an extra step that could result in more trichs gettin knocked off.

Lemme know what ya think.

I'm def. pleased for my virgin run, but def. also lookin forward to seein what some premo reg. photo gals look like.

Thanks bro

hey man, is there a rule of thumb as to when ya know the nodgies are finished in dryin box?

They have been in a dark area. RH has been pretty solid right around 40%.

Temps are normally in low 70's, @ night I believe the lowest is like 62.

Am I waitin for that stem, snap rule everyone speaks of, before goin into next process?

Again, main crop went in box Monday night. So I'll hit 72 hours tonight in da box.

Thanks my man

Alrighty, sorry for the multiple posts. Just tryin to get evthing sorted here.

Took rest of the week off, so I can get those swee photo girls into he system.

I know we have discussed, but can we recap phase 2's process?

So, tonight, the autos will get heir final chop.

And v-drip system will have a vacancy finally.

I am going to take my 3" cubes, place them in those netted 4" pots, & replace into v-drip tomorrow morning. Then kick on the 600 watt on 24/ 0, or 18/6 for a few days, simply to get them used to hid before the switch to 12/12. They (girls in cubes), are currently on 25% bloom nutes. Which I should kick up to 50% the first week under hid, then up to 100% by the second week the are under 12/12???

Then for the hydro farm (dude, those girls are real big, had to super crop them the other day & know they are even bushier, but bout 12" shorter). Same deal here. They been on 25% bloom nutes (rest grow nutes obv.) They will have 400 watter on them by tomorrow afternoon.

I need to get them bloomin asap (need to try & have things wrapped by mid june).

Sorry to ask again, I now understand why you always tellin me, "we'll get there when ya get there".

Just real pumped to finish the autos & concentrate on photo girls.

thanks homey

dude, did i mention that this fukn rocks.

i realize things could have gone betta, but i am totally burnin shit that I totally have paid upwards of 1bill/ per q. Recently been more like to 20 a g, straight up.

i mean i have been a continuous search for over a decade now, procuring contacts that i feel would lead to connoisseur grade bud. Also, lookin out for old dumb ass contacts @ public events & shit simply tryin to find descent bud for so long I can't remember.

So I guess the main bullet point here.... is that I have been tryin my balls off & PAYIN my balls off since for way longer than i'd like to admit to, when all the while i coluda been doin this.

Ahh, my hats off to ya sammy, even con-semilla, this stuff is pure fuego!!!!

im am still perfecting my dryin technique.. right now i let dry for about 4 days on the rack.. then throw them in gallon jars... i leave the lid on for a couple hours and then remove it for 3 or 4 hours... this way the buds can dry out.. but also the moisture can even out when the lids on.. the move even and slower the drying the better... after about 3 days of doing it like that in the gallon jars i can leave the lid on without mold, they are not crispy dry, and they are ready to really start curing..

sorry bout the seeds.. that sucks..

again i move mine before the stems snap... this is to let the moisture even out and slow the drying more.. the flowers will dry and there will still be moisture in the stem... letting the outside dry, then throwing them into paper bags or large jars that you leave open more than closed (again like 4 open, 2 closed), will draw the moisture from the stem and create a much more even dry...

so yea.. break down and clean everything well...

get the girls all moved over...

18/6 is plenty good to get used to the HID... give them 4 to 7 days under it.. then start 12/12... you can probably just start 12/12 without any "getting used to" period... but thats your call... i would prolly go with little to no accustomation period...

25% bloom nutes the first week... 50% the next week... 100% by the 3rd...

75% veg nutes the first week... 50% the next... 25% the 3rd... non from the 4th week on..

hey bro, completed the transfer today.

My ultimate plan is to run the lights on between 8pm to 8am. BTW, I did check & I do not have any external light leaks). So i am confident that I can pull off a nocturnal garden, if the heat is all good. So hopefully night time temps will help keep temps down.

ANyway, lemme know ur wisdom on that.

& on the subject of dryin.....

I took the fat girls out of the dryin box.
(They went in Monday night, so they had 72 hours in the box @ good temps & rh).

The thing was, last night, they all felt dry & ready to roll, so of course in all my noob wisdom, I put them into mason jars. I was also tryin to clear out space in dry box, so that I could get last nights' chop (lower stuff) in there.

This morning, I cracked them open & they were all super moist again, so I put them back in a different box I made today (with same dryer string set up & passive intake using 4" inline fan)

So, now I have x2 boxes, the larger ones were hung in there monday night, & the rest went in last night.

Sorry for the bombardment, just the uncertainty on how to get these jewels thru to fruition is killin me. The few samples I prepped usin ur glass pan in oven thing is great, but don't want them tastin & smellin like hay. Which I have started to notice smelling.

So thats a question. Do even ur super dank nugs smell like drying plant material when you first go to hang & dry, or are they just stanky from whole way thru.

Stuff I read says that the thc is actually an acid right now & proper drying wil sort that all out. (Which explains all the shitty "homegrown" i've smoked over the years, that was wet & nasty).

Here's the deal. They look funky, & have super gooy shiz all over, just not sure how to ensure they don;t smell like hay.

thanks 4 evthin bro

hey bro, i believe i have the heat issue sorted. got a vortex fan i can mount to wall & is blowin on @ full speed bout 4" from light.

Got temps stable @ 83. So, believe i'm good there. specially if only for 12/ per day.

1 dumb question.

How much, if any do i feed during the dark period?

Gonna start em on 12/12 sunday morning.

Saw some folks suggest let em stay dark for 24-36 hours when first introducing to bloom, then goin to 12/12. What ya think??

Just tryin to stress them as little as possible as you said thats how hermies happen.

w/ my partic. situation, (hid's on since bout 2pm today, so bout 40 hours) til sunday morn, when I will kill hid's.

Ya think go for the 24-36, or straight 12/12?

light cycle sounds good...

here is what happens during the drying process..

first the chlorophyll starts to turn into sugars... the longer the plant can dry the more converted they become and the smoother the smoke...

once the bud is dried out the cannabinoids and teripins can start to develope.. the cannabinoids affect the high.. the teripins affect taste and smell.. the teripins need to age like wine to develope... so it takes a while to get the smell and taste...

now when you dry the outside of the buds will dry out first.. but there is still moisture in the bud and stem... so when you seal them up the moisture wicks outwards... then they feel moist again... so it becomes a game of lid on and lid off...

when i dry i do about 4 days on a rack... ones the outsides feel dry (similar to what you said) i throw them into paper bags or gallon jars.. this isnt to start curing.. its still part of the drying process... i allow the moisture to even out in the buds (usually a couple hours) then i open the storage up... i'll leave it open for 4 or 5 hours.. to allow air to exchange, moisture to move away from the buds, and let them dry out some.. then its lid on for a couple hours again.. and so on.. each time i make sure to turn the jar or move the buds around some to keep them from sticking and molding...

everyday they will feel dryer and dryer... so the lid will stay on longer and longer.. usually by the 7th or 8th day total (so 3 or 4 on rack, 3 or 4 jars) they are ready to actually cure.. then its just leave them in the jars sealed up well.. let them breath a couple times a day.. but it takes a week or so of curing before you really start tasting and smelling things... really 2 or 3 is better... but after a week they are smokeable and when you break them open you'll get the good smell...

im a pretty solid believer in the 24 to 36 straight dark... i really do think it kick starts flowering... flower onset is faster... sexing is quicker... but it could just be my own superstition... its one of those things that are hard to prove since every strain acts differently anyways.. but i do it.. the plants dont mind it... so..
water about 1/4 of the time you do during lights on.. for instance in veg i feed 4x a day.. 1 time every 6 hours... in flowering i feed 6 times a day.. 5 times during lights on and 1 time during lights off... so you can kinda play with it some and see what they like.. worst case one morning you'll notice the plants a little droopy which means you would have to increase the feed a little.. their rate of transpiration slows at night.. so they dont need as much water at all..

beautiful, thanks for all the info. bout drying & what not. preesh ya keepin me goin in the right direction.

Where do you buy (what type of store) the large 1 gal. mason jars.

I tried a large super club type store, usin the logic that since they sell food & evthing in bulk, they would have the most storage / cannery stuff. However, after wandering & speakin to 3 workers there (non of which employed english as their first language), nor did any of them know what a mason jar was, tupperware was the closest I got, & I do believe that was all they had.

I found some mason jars @ a local grocery store, but the largest they had was the 32oz junks.

ANyway, where you snag 'em from bro??

Today is the 37th day (so early in week 6) of 12/12 for my plants. I didn't keep track of when they started to show signs of flowering (earliest picture i have with evidence is 10 days in). I decided that I would go with what most people do and stop feeding the last 2 weeks (i would not water extra just regularly without food). My question is this: Assuming most plants flower for 8 weeks, if I want to water plainly for the last 2 weeks how many more days should i wait before I stop feeding nutes?
*I presume they don't mean 6 weeks from starting 12/12 and that they mean 6 weeks from when they show appropriate signs of flowering, which may end up being 7 or 8 weeks after starting 12/12 (so a plant might really be on 12/12 for 9-10 weeks).

I do not know much yet about when exactly to harvest, and I read that some people chop the tops and let the bottoms get sun for a little while longer, so this can all be a little confusing. I am presently reading up on trichome colors and bulb cloudiness and what not. I would rather play a little safe than sorry though. My patient does no need very much of even mid grade stuff, so this doesn't have to be the best bud ever. So if there is a simple couple line/rule of thumb you could give me that would be great. (something as simply as at least 6 weeks in flowering and 1/2 to 3/4 of the hairs are red, or some of the resin glands on the ends of whatever are starting to turn red or whatever. Thanks!

UPDATE: I spent a couple minutes checking the plants. It would seem that most bud sites on each plant are half red hairs and half white (forget what they're called), except for each plants largest/main/top cola/budthing which have virtually none. And the resin glands are mostly clear, on some spots it seemed there were some milky/cloudy ones, but I am pretty that most on each plant are not ready to go yet. Haha growing this stuff is like an art/science, and I'm only in high school :P (metaphorically)

PS: I've read in a couple places on the internet (although only as a small part of a comment and no one talked about it) that using Super Thrive during veg can feminize plants, and that it should not be used during flowering because it can prolong the flowering period in a negative way. What are your thoughts on this?
Ok I just found this here https://www.rollitup.org/view.php?pg=faq&cmd=article&id=554
Superthrive

Ingredients: vitamin B1 - 0.09%, 1-naphthyl acetic acid (NAA) - 0.048%

Uses: promotes root growth in cuttings, general root growth and a predominance of female flowers. After saying this it should not be used in flowering as it will prolong flowering period if applied after the onset of flowering.

Have you ever heard of this? If it can overpower a male plant and make it a chick haha, maybe that explains why none of my 3 were dudes (I fed them more of that stuff than most people do/is recommended). I tried hard to find a good explanation of this effect from Superthrive but everyone is just referencing that same quote, even the good magazines and websites. I can't find anyone that explains it in more depth, does it make males grow girly parts instead of boy parts? how does it work? if you use a bunch on a male will he get man boobs? lol

Ok so I know you can stress females to grow like males, but can you do it the other way around to? That Canadian guy the US tried to extradite, its even on his website in those words. All these websites with that quote seem to imply that super thrive can somehow make a male flower like a female but nobody explains :(

Ok well I've been trying to do research the last couple hours and I've changed my mind a bit. I've used foxfarm organic nutrients (which aren't heavy in salt/salt based) and so people say it is not as necessary to flush. So many people seem to do fine with a 2 week flush (don't suffer any significant drawbacks) and plenty of people seem to do fine feeding right up to harvest. So I think I will go half and half just to be safe and only water plainly the last week. So on to some questions: Do you know much about any advanced harvesting tricks like keeping them in the dark the last few days before harvest, or harvesting at x time of day, or harvesting on a day they would normally be watered (harvest with dry vs wet soil, or half way between waterings, or not even watering at all x amount of time before harvest), stuff like that?

*How do you feel about the use of molasses? I have that grandma's stuff a lot of people use up until harvest, they say at 1 tablespoon per gallon. Is there any special way to do it? Or can I just whip out a measuring spoon and dump a tablespoon of it in the gallon jug and shake right before feeding?*(that stuff can be thick and sticky, should I let it sit in water for a day or something?

PS: here are some pics from 10 minutes ago, feel free to revise your estimate ;) * although I feel they look better in these pics than in person, esp 1 version of the photos (since I can only post.. 4 at a time I will wait until my response to your response to this post before posting the pics of the smallest plant :P so I don't double post). The tall/lst one *Alma has always had the biggest issues, and had them more frequently (and when I went to long without giving a high N veg nute in flowering I think it messed her up pretty bad for the rest of the grow *a lot of her big leaves there are purple, the picture dosen't capture it well but they give me the impression they are supposed to be purple and not that it is a sign of a problem). The 2nd tallest doesn't seem to want to handle full strength nutes very well (getting nute burn spots on her fan/larger leaves on the top/main cola (no apparent problems below the top 1/3rd, do you you think that means I should continue full strength for her since its only on those leafs near the top?), and the smallest which is not among these photos, appears to have no issues what so ever with full strength nutes and hasn't had any problems with yellowing or dropping any leaves for awhile (funny how the one that grew most abnormally and is smallest in size is handling things best o_O) *day 93 since the tallest popped out of the dirt (day 92 for the others), and this is the 38th day of 12/12. *sry again I talk so much, it is so hard not to!

Well all my problems seem to have been over feeding and under feeding. When I don't feed enough of the veg nute i use (foxfarm growbig) the leaves turn yellow, when I use too much of something they get spots that look like dry or burnt bits on the leaves. Pretty sure a lack of nitrogen is the most common cause of yellowing... And since someone else posted I ill put up the pics of the smallest plant now! (again feel free to revise your estimate if you think you can :P now I'm just curious how well you can guess, we can make it a game, you get another guess now and the day they get cut haha)

light cycle sounds good...

here is what happens during the drying process..

first the chlorophyll starts to turn into sugars... the longer the plant can dry the more converted they become and the smoother the smoke...

once the bud is dried out the cannabinoids and teripins can start to develope.. the cannabinoids affect the high.. the teripins affect taste and smell.. the teripins need to age like wine to develope... so it takes a while to get the smell and taste...

now when you dry the outside of the buds will dry out first.. but there is still moisture in the bud and stem... so when you seal them up the moisture wicks outwards... then they feel moist again... so it becomes a game of lid on and lid off...

when i dry i do about 4 days on a rack... ones the outsides feel dry (similar to what you said) i throw them into paper bags or gallon jars.. this isnt to start curing.. its still part of the drying process... i allow the moisture to even out in the buds (usually a couple hours) then i open the storage up... i'll leave it open for 4 or 5 hours.. to allow air to exchange, moisture to move away from the buds, and let them dry out some.. then its lid on for a couple hours again.. and so on.. each time i make sure to turn the jar or move the buds around some to keep them from sticking and molding...

everyday they will feel dryer and dryer... so the lid will stay on longer and longer.. usually by the 7th or 8th day total (so 3 or 4 on rack, 3 or 4 jars) they are ready to actually cure.. then its just leave them in the jars sealed up well.. let them breath a couple times a day.. but it takes a week or so of curing before you really start tasting and smelling things... really 2 or 3 is better... but after a week they are smokeable and when you break them open you'll get the good smell...
.
Thanks for again holdin my hand thru this goose.

Wanted to see if you could perhaps elude on teripins you spoke of. SOunds like those are the things i be searchin after for years, the flava essentially.

Here's the deal, my main nugs (they may be the only ones that have the slightest bag appeal).

Anyway, i chopped those last monday night. so it's been a full week.had on dryer for 3 days, then in jars for 1 day, then back on dryer (after ur mesg. above) until today. This afternoon they were super moist again (after feeling like they were WAY too dry yesterday, amazing how deceiving that shiz can be). So tonight I opened them up & poured most of the fatties into a reg. paper grocery bag, which I'll prb. do for a few hours, as you suggested.

Here's the thing, man it just really smells like extrememley pungent plant matter, are those teripins still get sorted out??? Or is this the nature of ruderalis that the technology is still young, and they are what they are.

If so, all good, I just wanna know how, to what degree & when ur girls start gettin stanky.

This is all speculation, but I really assumed for the place to be super stank w/ headie smellin fruits. However, @ nest it smells like hay or straight plant material when I get up close to them.

FYI, the photo girls looked to enjoy the 36 hours of dark, quite a bit of new, healthy lookin leaves. Just gettin used to my systems bein fully automated (dude i was handwatering photo seedlings x3 times a day for the past 6 weeks. The pump I got, wasn't strong enough to pump the nutes up the full 8' I needed, just underestimated there.

YOu are right on evthin my man, but especially that old "ya learn more from 1 grow than from thousands of pages of readin). Worked well, cause the pump that came with the v-drip was some weak ass little 66gph pump, so I threw the one I bought for drip tray & it worked great & didn't miss a step.

Thanks for evthing bro, just hopin to try & salvage something tasty from these autos.

Be candid though, if ya think their teripins are not gonna sort out, just lemme know.

thanks homey
