French Macaron - Gelato 33 x French cookies

Thought I’d make some sort of diary, if anyone reading this would like to chime in and give me pointers/advice Im here To learn

Seeds went into my daughters (westkent) grow unit on the 30th October it has a 5l tank - 5m of canna A and B

i noticed the day and night temps were a little low so looked at upgrading my shelf and getting my daughters grow box back to her

seeds started to show on the 3rd

Got a new tent for the babies (p90 60x90x120) got 2 units one for seedings and one for cuttings both with heated mats both sites have 2 12” lights

i transferred the plants from the old unit to the new aeroponic cutting unit and kept them on just A and B temp was set at 18 degrees

Transferred the plants from the smaller groom into the bigger room on the 4th of December

kinda ballsed up as it was the first time using the new set up and didn’t measure how much water was in the pots up to the float in the header tank - pots are 20L but not completely full

so working off 20L x 9 I did overdo it with the feed

I’m using mainly canna following the schedule from the canna site A and B, PYZ and Pk15 also added a rootrotx from the people who make the pots to keep the water and roots clean

Missed the first day after potting on but wish I hadn’t, day 2 was looking pretty dia, I wasn’t sure if it was shock from moving them or something else, I had used slightly lower amounts canna recommended so wasn’t to sure at first, but took all plants out and put them in clean water

Ph is at 6.2 and the EC should have been at 1.2-1.4 although after ball-sing up with the water amounts it was up at 1.9 so had to do some fairly rough math and take water with nutes in out and put clean water back till the EC came down

12 December 8 days after nearly killing everything after getting The feeding right and pruning all the dead off the most effected plants they all were starting to look alive

Noticed a Cal/Mag deficiency on the 19th after reading up its a common thing with rcdw although canna A and B have it in I guess it needed a bit more added Cal/Mag + Fe 1ml per L and all the girls picked them selves up

Over the few days of Xmas hiding from family and social things going on I found my self with a bit to much time on my hands - took the tops off everything and thinned them out a bit not sure if I’ve over done it, I’m going to spend a bit of time training everything outwards trying to create a family dense base

how new are you to this? Just curious because growing hydro can be pretty tricky at first. I see the bigger plants are looking beautiful!
I love Canna, I use it religiously, I don’t follow their schedule though. They have made it better over the years though. I’m one of their ambassadors and have told them it needed work back in the day lol. I’m subbed and following along! Hope you find some nice genetics on your hunt!

Thanks and yeh I left school at 16 to studied horticulture for 3 years, every Wednesday morning was hydroponics, but 35 now and allot has been forgotten (although still in the trade) but more than happy for pointers.

This will be my first proper go at things with the recirculating deep water but after the last run with the gravity fed I feel I’ve got most the kinks out of it already. most my friends have had grows on and off over the years but it’s always been soil with more attention to saving costs and getting it out quick rather than doing it for the fun and love of learning .

I just need to get the pruning dialled back in and things should be golden

My French Macaron cut down @ 9wks today and the green one is @4wks in two days same cut.

Mines still super light green (all new growth) but I’m hoping it will get as dark as that, did u manage to get a decent weight of it? And how many weeks did it take to get u that far?

My other one is @4wks turning purple already,the other did 9wks

these are now at 8 weeks from seed, they are showing what looks like a cal mag deficiency but size wise and colour they look like different plants although I have been trying to change up how I prune them this run so not sure if that’s stunted them to

10 weeks veg, had the lights turned up at 100% (not sure why but it took me a while to realise) put back down to 25% to get them to stretch a bit also swapped the plants about a bit so the bigger plants are at the back also trying my best to split the shoots and try to work all the canopy’s flat

Are you planning to flower in that 120 height tent? If so you will run out of space pretty quick my man. I would be laying a scrog net now and try to get your canopy about 3 inches above the medium if the branches have enough flexibility. And then flip straight away. Some strains will triple in size during stretch.

Yeh I’ve ordered some clip on poles to get the net across, was planning on trying to fill them out a bit to be honest, they are fairly woody tho with not much give, but was hoping after I’ve pinched all the ends the new growth will give me the flexibility to train out a a bit more, the lights have still got a fair way to go probably the same hight distance again if that makes sense

I think you are right that they need to fill out a bit more but you will need a bigger tent for sure. If you try and flower out 8 plants in a tent that big you will run into overcrowding and light burn issues.

yeh makes sense, I was hoping to just controle them with pruning and the net, it’s due the 19th so I guess I’ll keep u posted
