"Friend"

I have been thinking about this a lot lately, what it really means to be a 'friend'. I'm thoroughly interested in strangers opinions, other average people roaming this rock.

To me, a friend is somebody you can count on no matter what, under all circumstances. You get unexpedly locked up, there he is with bail money. Your dad passes away, he's on the next flight out nothing further said with the dankest sack he can find. You need advice, one call sets everything right. A body needs hiding, he supplies the shovels. He's family. Your brother. Someone you would die for.

I know one dude who I think fits these criteria. I am 24 years old, have known him for 17 years. Have been through everything together.

How many of these kinds of people do you know?

If I lost my pinky and thumb I could still count my real friends on one hand.

A friend is someone that comes home from a long day at work and upon finding you on their doorstep drunk after having downed 3/4's of a bottle of vodka in the last half hour and stinking like weed and makes you a cup of coffee while you're throwing up outside their door and just smiles about and cleans up around you while asking you what's wrong and lets you inside now smelling of vodka, weed and vomit to wash up in the bathroom of their small 2 bedroom apartment and doesn't make a fuss about it or bring it up later at all for any reason...

oh don't forget that the friend will make you hot wings when you get the munchies.

Also I believe that with my friend, even if we are completely quiet, there is never an awkward silent moment.

The kind of guy I am, it's hard to have an actual "friend", but I've got two! Well...if you count my wife. If not, then just the one.

I was kind of a drifter when I was younger and never stayed in any place long enough to make the kind of friends you described but I have found that now being married to my wife.

You need to be careful thinking that your friend is actually like that... unless you've actually buried a body together... Cause I thought I had a friend like that once...
