how and when exactly should i go about putting my plants outside without having them flower early?

I live in southern california and its mid may, my girls have always been on an 18/6 light cycle.

drop the light cycle to 16 hrs for a few days then harden them off, here is a great site to figure out how long your days are, just find the city nearest you.Day Length Chart

They wont flower early. Its may. The days are shorter in the summer and most of the west and mid west have had a late spring this year. Now is a great time to plant them

What kind of lighting have they been under? You will lose all foliage if you go from say......CFL's to full sun. They must be acclimated slowly to the most intense sun of the year. Has nothing to do with photoperiod. They won't show sex until August, unless they have some rudy in them and then it's anyone's guess.

UB is right, start them outside under filtered or indirect lite, gradualy expose them to more and more direct sunlite for best results. ( maybe shade cloth or under trees ?)
