Required coverage (the "individual mandate"). American citizens and legal residents would be required to have health insurance, or pay a fine. For an individual, the fine would be $750 per year or 2 percent of household income, whichever is greater; for a family, the maximum fine would be $2,250 per year or 2 percent of household income. The fines would go into effect gradually, starting in 2014. The House bill is similar, with exemptions for certain low-income people.

Employer obligation. Companies with more than 200 employees would be required to enroll their workers in a health insurance plan, with no ability for employees to opt out. Companies with more than 50 but fewer than 200 workers would not be required to offer insurance, but if they didn't, they'd have to pay a fee of $750 per employee each year (with some variations). Companies with fewer than 50 workers would not have to offer insurance or pay any fees. Those rules would go into effect in 2014. The House bill would place similar requirements on employers, but with a different way of determining which companies are required to offer insurance.

We will have to wait and see if this governmental overreach, an abusive atrocity, will pass constitutional scrutiny...it will most certainly be tested.
It will really all boil down to the SCOTUS's composition at that future point in time when they hear this case.
If Obama gets another apointee, it could be game over for freedom and liberty.
My heart is heavy with despair at that prospect.

like unemployment insurance?

being forced to buy anything is extortion, doesnt matter what it is

if you do not have a choice in whether or not you purchase something, thats pretty fucked up

once again ill say it, it does not matter what it is

if you were forced to buy flowers and happiness it would still be bad, because you had no choice

Yep like that Fdd.
Theft and Violance are tools for tyrants.
I don't care what good reason you come up with to justify it.
In the end its just theft and violance.

Unemployment insurance is a trap for fools who refuse to plan for contingencies. The only beneficiary of it is government.

The only real result is more government employees - a bigger bureaucracy; another pool of money to control and draw interest from.

Employers must pay the insurance for each employee. Workers must meet certain conditions set forth by government to draw the insurance.

Unemployment insurance is another government scam.

Patting you on the back in a reassuring manner all the while they got the other hand in your pocket.

with this new health care idea, are they raising taxes as well? or just implementing this requirement to purchase gov health insurance? because here (canada) we dont have to purchase anything because it comes right from our taxes. because i mean, either way you have to pay something. and i'd rather have a bit come out in taxes than have to purchase some plan from the gov. i dont know why the US cant use a system similar to ours. i've never had any complaints, nor have i ever met anyone whos had complaints about our health care. now, im sure that there are people in canada who dont like our system...i just dont know anyone like that myself.

Sorry, that just makes too much sense for the US. Insurance companies would have to offer a product of real value to cover expenses and options above and beyond good basic health care.

We already have to buy car insurance or risk losing our vehicles driving uninsured.

Yeah, health insurance is a choice. Just see what you get charged for medical services if your uninsured. Setting a broken arm if you're insured cost $X, what the insurance company deems customary and reasonable. The uninsured will be charged 5-10 time $X because providers can charge whatever they want. There's no negotiation or disclosure before providing service.

This bill will make a bad system worse.

We do have a choice. I've chosen not to participate and not to pay. Fuck them.
Well, your resistance is to be admired, BUT ... the collection is going to be handled by the IRS. Either you pay up, or the IRS will issue a "Notice of Levy" and send it to your bank. The bank will send the funds for your insurance to the IRS WITHOUT DUE PROCESS. Remember, the Constitution no longer exists under the Obama/Pelosi/Reid dictatorship.
