It seems to me that alot of people on this site have changed and adapted their growing techniques as more info was available and tested etc..

Overgrow.com used to be the main site online. I was a distinguished grower there and actually helped "Old grower" along with "b-52"
work on some of the famous bubblegum/bubblicious strains that have now been takin over by dutch genetics.

Anyway my question to you all is. WHAT HAPPENED TO THE DARK PERIOD.

We used to teach this to all new growers of non white strains. The final day of harvest is all 24hours of dark. This WILL improve your crop. It has been tested and the percentage of THC has improved in the past for us from 17%-19% normal, to 18%-22 with the dark period. And this was before adavnced nutrients and different sensi systems were produced to effect and help cannabis plants better. So why have people stopped doing this was my question. In the old world it was done by everyone but white strain hybrid or pure breed white strain growers.
I was just wondering if there has been a new leader of experimentation who has gone on to deem it not important. I will say the 24hours of dark is not a mandatory step that growers have to take. But I and others of the old world (overgrow.com) have never swayed from this practice, because it has been tested. Anyway Not a sermon, Just a thought

Ahh... Girlfriends... some will help ya grow, and some will snitch ya out... Well welcome to RIU... quite a few people here know their shit, but a constantly growing userbase of new growers demanding education can cloud things up at times. Either way, this is the place to be :)

well I will try to assit as much as possible since i Have 32 years of grow experince.

Have 50 clones of WWidow and 20 seedlings of matanuska thunderfuck, and 50 seedlings of bubblegum/ and bublicious mix

pix soon. Just gotta get my room set up so until then I wont have any pics up. But not putting any in this thread anyway. Will have new thread soon.

I just started growing indoors and have read about the 24hr of darkness prior to harvesting and had planned on doing this before I harvest. For my outdoor grows I always harvest just before dawn so that the plants get as much darkness in as possible. I know its not 24 hours but I figure its better than harvesting at noon, thanks for the info and I'll be waiting to see them pics.

Busto420 yeah girlfriends that snitch suck...welcome to RUI...most do 24-72 dark period before harvest here also....I think it sucks you got nabbed..It's happened to the best of us my question is....What did you learn? lol hope you got all the legal shit taken care of? I had them off my back in 7 months but gave it a few years before I started again..and I moved to a state where the laws aren't so evil. and as for needing stronger growers....This site has quite a few ...I think what we really need is guys and girls like me willing to make the effort and teach those around you to grow, set up grow rooms spread around good genetics for free...yes free and help them out soon you have 4 rooms at diffrenent locals once they get the hang of it suggest they go out and do the same its not just enough to talk about it we as growers have to branch out spead out the skills and the genetics....good lookin out brother hope you moved to a state where manditory min jail time is only for those with over 20,000 gms...just a thought grow on:)

i do a 72 hour dark period and it really does enchance the buds.. i had a gf rat me out too.. after that... no one knows whats up with the grow..

Well, there seems to be a bit of controversy surrounding the technique. My son, who's been growing for a couple of years now (this is my first successful endeavor) does a 48 hour dark period before harvest and only uses paper bags for curing. I certainly have enough girls to experiment with, but haven't read anything other than anecdotal statements regarding the utility of "The Dark Period".

Yeah I always heard that it has to do with storing nutes in the roots instead of the leaves or that the stress of it causes a defensive reaction in the plant to produce more resin?

Anyone want to back that info up, I am a bit more of a science geek and love proof.

It really sucks living on the mans schedule. I'm glad you have your freedom and the ability to grow in private again.

Also thanks for the advice. This is a tidbit I had not managed to learn online as of yet.

Hey busted420 I just joined today and was an member for quite a long time over at OG, in fact still have a strain from that one auction they did for a memeber that got busted, its called Generals Daughter supposed to be a cross of Cinderella X G13. Sorry to hear you got busted with 120 plants...if you dont mind asking how much time did you serve. Anyway nice to see others from OG!!

Busto, thanks for the info. I can't wait to get good at this and have a few grows under my belt. I'm just now starting my second grow...FINALLY with an HPS.

As a medicinal user, I have taken the time to setup with a soil grow and a harvest every 2 weeks. I had not heard of the importance of a dark period before harvest. It is good info especially as it seems to be backed up by science. The dark period would be impractical for me as I have other plants that would be waiting to finish in 2, 4 and 6 weeks out. I am intrigued enough to start thinking about where I could put the plants to be harvested for a dark period. Thanks for the info. I rely on the experience, strength and hope of more experienced growers to learn.

Have you actually tried this yourself or are you just randomly talking about shit you have never even tested out!!

I personally have done it in the past and there is a differencece, since I have a second table in same room thats a few weeks behind I no longer do it.
