Are fruit flies going to have any effect on my MJ? They seem to like the Fox Farm Ocean Forest i only have 2 so far but worried if they get worse they could do harm

They probably lay eggs on your plant or in the soil and then the larvae chew on root tips.

Theyre fungus gnats, little bit of cinnamon lightly dusted on the top will kill fungus/food source for the little fuckers. Found that out my one and only time trying soil.

Can I put cinnamon directly on all my soil? It's the soil that they are attracted to. It's bat guano and earthworm castings...is it OK to water with cinnamon ontop?

never found them a problem, got loads of them flying round my shed, they need damp soil so if you let the soil dry out and don't over water they don't last very long
often have one or two in my grow room

Too much water!

Cut it down and you will solve the problem....I had them thick a few months ago....I remembered it clicked when Paula from Pure Analytics remarked, that cannabis was a desert plant...Desert are classified as 12" or less of rain a YEAR, so its low input and they will handle less watering remarkably well... Fruit flies don't live in the desert, at least not well....

I have fruit flies here due to my fruit trees. I have never had one in my room though. I deal with fungus gnats occasionally since I do not let my soil dry out ever. The majority of microbial life is in the top few inches of the soil and if it dries out you loose that. I cover my soil with two inches of hydroton to prevent drying which in turn means I water less (18 gallon tubs get 1 gallon of clear water every 5 days or so).

I am going to give the apple cider vinegar a try. Sounds simple enough. Normally I mix spinosad in the water every 4th watering which seems to do the trick until I bring more soil into the room that has them in it.

If you want to kill the ones that are alive and not just their food source, do a half shot glass of wine with a couple drops of dish soap mixed in.

You need ceylon cinnamon.
Sand / DE / Silica ....if you keep watering too heavy they will just crawl thru that shit...
crabshell helps.
I'm finding little ones crawling out of the soil....makes me paranoid
1/3 h202(hydrogen peroxide) 2/3's water will kill those larvae. It will foam up but its fine.

You could let the pots dry out a little before watering. Don't let it get so dry you kill the roots though.
Yeah I plan to let it dry, I've done the cinnamon trick and it helped but I'm going to do the hydrogen peroxide anyways
