Man I just cant win with this damn heat ! I went a bought a 8000 BTU Portable A/C to cool a 65 sq ft room.. Thinking this will be awsome I can cut the humidity out and cool the room at the same time... NO it lowers the room temps a wopping 2 degrees!! for 890 watts of electricty! All Im cooling is a 400w CMH...

I was so excited I cleaned and mopped the floors every thing was perfect... A/C came in yesterday routed the ducts up threw the attic set it to 75 and felt like I was the man!! came back to see the damn temps droped 2 fucking degrees!!

Come to find out my hot water heater wich is gas is in the same room well the damn A/C is pulling hot air threw the chimney of the water heater!!! so as Im exhausting hot air threw the attic it is also pulling in hot air threw the chimney of the water heater... also not letting the damn carbon monixide exit that part of my house... Errrr what to do with this damn heat:evil:

What kind of ac is it? Would it be possible to put it in another room, and duct only the cool air in, thereby creating positive pressure to keep your water heater flue drafting?

that sucks man. can you pipe house air to the room that the AC is in? the home AC wont notice much.

A portable ac is worthless unless you vent it very carefully. Even the radiant heat coming off the exhaust hose is too much for the unit to handle, much less if you have any leaks.

You need to make the exhaust as short as possible - no longer than 5 feet - even if you need to cut new exhaust holes for your room. The entire length of the exhaust hose needs to be insulated. Make sure you have no leaks. If you don't do all of this the unit is worthless.

Yeah I Have a 4" leak from the water heater no way around that It will have to be piped in from either the Main A/C or Im just going to have to bite the bullet again and get a dual hose portable A/C wich would circutlate attic air threw the intake and exhaust and should eliminate negitive presure... sucks I just paid $450 for this one...

The exhaust hose to the attic is 3 1/2 foot.. so I dont think the length is a problum but the hose dose get hot. Insualting probly would help I will have to try it.. however I still cant close the door cause of the negitive pressure cause it blew out the pilot flame on the water heater wich I found out this mourning with a cold shower!.. all well Ive been dealing with these damn hot summer temps without A/C back there for over 13 yrs now and still get great results... but not like them winter months when it gets down to the 60's at night.. ;)
