Dude. I don't know why so many people insist on fucking up the simplest part of growing. There is no need to mess with a seed during germination at all. You don't need to see it. You don't need it in a paper towel or a glass of water. You say you have plugs? Get the plug nice and moist, place the seed about a quarter inch deep in the center of the plug, cover it up, and LEAVE IT ALONE. Just make sure the pellet doesn't dry out. Keep them under lights from the beginning so that as soon as the cotyledons emerge above the surface of the soil they have light and won't get all stretchy. If they do get stretchy just bury the stem when you put the pellet into a pot.
