Germinate In Soil Or Propagator?

I've just got my first seeds. What's the difference in germinating in a propagator then transplanting to soil and germinating just in soil?

I grow a lot of vegetables and just stick the seeds either in a seed tray or individual pots. Nearly all germinate that way. Is using a propagator simply a way to get them to germ faster? Or does it offer any other benefits?

I think there is no difference as everyone has their own ways. I prefer to keep them dark and moist in a paper towel or something like that and it usually takes just a day or two to pop then in soil I put them.
