Germinating under HPS before planting outdoors

Gday guys,
Thanks for all the useful info so far. This place is an invaluable resource to any grower!
Iam starting an outdoor grow over the next couple of weeks being the start of spring in Aus.
I've already germinated some durban poison seeds that i got from nirvana in the NL.

I was speaking with a mate today and he offered me a HPS light for 50 bucks which i couldnt say no to.

My question is: Should i put my seedlings under there for a few weeks to get things happening?
I was thinking for 3 or 4 weeks till they get about a foot then sticking them in the ground outside
.
If i go this route, how long should i keep the HPS light on for? 12/12 or 18/6. Bearing in mind there is about 12 days of natural light at the moment.

Sorry this if my first post but i figure people would rather me search than have to answer questions that come up all the time.
Any help would be appreciated.
Cheers from Aus.:bigjoint:

if your plants have established a good root structure feel free to veg them for a bit under the 600W HPS if you wanna get a headstart on your outdoor grow.
not sure what your season is so im not sure if it benefits you to be inside currently.
when vegging plants with HPS you want 18/6 or 24/0 light cycle
