my friend and i go out fishing in his boat overnight 90 miles out. the 2000 watt generator sits on back of boat all night -n- it's never heard. i have older 6000 watt which is still fairly quiet. they use little gas too....peace

the thing is in my grow lamps it self r 8000 watts , i would need pretty big generator lol or 2 smaller ones , my lights r on 220 output right now so generators to support that could be costly , do anyone know about output of honda generators , and how much gas they use per 24h

i didnt even think that growing with gas generators was still practical with gas closing in on $5 bucks a ggallon, how do you make that work for you?

$5 a gallon I would hate to live where you are. 91 octane/premium is under $4 a gallon where I live and like $3.65 for regular. If you are think of taking your whole house off the power grid that will be very costly to do. Sadly solar technology and cost is not to the point of being able to power a home. If you are looking at taking just your grow off the grid them you have the right idea with solar power, use the sun as your light source I am. Nothing can replace the sun for growing anything.

how many solar panels do you think i would need for an 8 light grow?

I'm thinking to take off just my grow , idk , i'm that type of person that i rather not leave any trace that's why i was thinking about getting of the grid , my grow it's 8000w plus... so if i would go solar i would need pretty big set up lol , i even was watching online on youtube how to make ur own diy solar panels and stuff , i'm a hands on guy when it's coming to making something ,i'm pretty crafty lol , it's just to make them i wouldn't have a problem, to count how many of the panels and what size i need and what i need for batteries to support 8000 watt plus grow that's my problem , i know basics but they just a basics how to recount that , u sed that u using sun ,do u have solar panels for ur grow? how big of the system u have then ?

I did the math recently when building a new room. Even with NG which is the cheapest fuel out there it will cost 3x as much. They make large and quiet as hell generators but it's just expensive to run them.

Could be less expensive in your area. I'm paying 8 cents per kwh. :)

probably the cheapest off the grid power is DIY windmill, provided you're willing to keep it modest sized
a mill for a peak of 200 watts can be built for less than $100, provided you can get some cheap/free electric motors that can be tweaked into being generators
but batteries drive up costs fast

not nearly as efficient as solar, how many days do you go outside and really realize its windy vs noticing the sun is out lol, dont waist your time, your going to build your windmill for $100 and have to buy batteries to hold the charge at $2000 + probably(dont quote me im guessing) solar all the way bro

this is very location dependent, and solar is very expensive compared to wind
at least on the commercial side, on the east coast wind is wide spread for commercial power, solar essentially non existent
either of them will get into pricey coin if you want a large setup
and once you have batteries/inverter/charger, you can use either/both solar and wind

very true that, but im basing it off of west coast where the sun shines almost all year

Thru but i don't live in Cali lol :) or in the middle of nowhere , i'm from CT and where i live growing indors r my only option :)
you would need a huge diesel generator. and a cheap supply of fuel. a little Honda would burn out running like that.
