Its been years since I dabbed into hydro. And when I use to it (dwc) & (aero) it was a lot of work for cleaning. The dwc was tedious, I had 8 buckets I had to drain and refill every week. With aero the roots were all in one tub, so when one plant was ready for harvest, all the roots would still be left in therl tub tangled with the others.
so what im looking for is either a fix to these problems or a new technique that requires less maintenance.

I grow soilless (pro-mix,perlite,and dolomite lime) in fabric pots. I find this to be the simplest form of hydro. It gives me total control while remaining as simple as soil. I use Dyna-Gro nutes. Hand water, KISS. Easy peasy.

I don't know how long you been out of the game but not much has changed. The cannabis industry is still selling overpriced bottles of water and all the canna myths are alive and well. But, the plant remains the same.

you are right, individual DWC buckets are a pain in the ass. You can use those yellow square tidy cats litter boxes and plumb them together with 2" PVC, and current culture spin tight bulkheads or uniseals... connected to a central res (undercurrent dwc, ucdwc, rdwc).

you could use a single large container with multiple plants in the lid. for example an active aqua 100 gallon 4' x 4' res, or flood n drain tables with lids.

Or just use a different method of hydro entirely like nft or dft tubes or something.

Any links to these techniques? The forum has changed since 5 years ago, locations are different.
