Getting raided.

I woke up this morning to the sound of my boyfriend telling me that there is a bug inspector at our apartment. (Hired by my landlord.) Currently, I have a small grow operation with about five plants in my closet in a spare room. He turned off the light in that room, but neglected to hide the power cord leading into the closet. Since the inspector was checking the floorboards, I am worried that he spied the cord (It's hard to miss because of the bright light on it.) and since the room smelled slightly like marijuana, I am worried that he might put the two together and report me to the police.

I was thinking about moving all of the plants to a park, that's practically abandoned, later tonight and leaving them there for a week or so.

Does anyone here think that my suspicions are warranted, and does anyone know how long it typically takes for police to take care of this sort of thing? I live in an ultra conservative Southern state, so keeping the plants is not an option. Or, I was thinking about flowering early and harvesting the plants early.

the bug inspector shouldnt nark on you , why would he care what your doing , hes looking for bugs
and i dont think you can just tell the police you think a guy is growing and then they come running ,
they need sum proof not just he said she said
my 2 cents :)

As far as i am aware, if he goes running ot the police, this then prompts them to possibly mounting an investigation on you, but not a warrant. I think you'll be fine. I had exactly the same kind of issue. Had someone installing an arial for a tv so had to g across my bed past my cab for roof access, wasn't expecting him so had to run in ahead of him, didn't manage to turn the light out before he was through the doorway. Never heard anything of it.

if he didnt see the plants themselves i wouldnt worry at all. what can he say "oh i was spraying for bugs and i saw an extension cord..."

extension cord, bright lights and smelled weed....

i highly doubt it would be enough for a warrant unless he seen them but it will put an eye on you for sure. the sheriff isnt gonna get a tip like that and not follow up on it.

I don't think he would narc on you . He is an independent contractor. He is probably envious and will go home and tell his buddy over beers. Don't sweat it.

This is one of the problems with growing in property that you do not own. The master key that maintainance uses fits your lock. You can't be home all the time and you can only secure it so much.

I think this is the problem the guy might not report it, But he might (probably will) tell his friends and so on before you know it some idiot might eventually report it (or steal it :P). I think it also depends where you live and the amount of plant for example in Ireland i think the max penalty for personal use (a few plants) is just a small fine, if it's your first offence. so I'd just risk it in that case but i think other countries have a more 0 tolerance I'd take these variables into account when in my decision in what to do.

Nahhhhhhh, master key or not the landlord doesn't' have that kind of power and entry. To make entry without your permission, a written warning must first be esrved which then must allow a certain amount of time to pass before it's his right to force entry (force entry with a key of course :D)

Well, if the exterminator is an ass, he may tell the apartment management. If the apartment management hears about it they WILL investigate. If they can smell it outside, most likely they will call the cops and evict you. Move the plants and don't try to grow in apartments...

there are situations beyond your control that allow a landlord the right of entry without 24 hour notice. I worked maintenance and know it can be done. They won't do it for any type of suspicion, however, if you live in an upstairs and the lower reports water coming in from the ceiling, they are going in. If a neighbor smells smoke, they are going in. They have the right of immediate entry if it is to save life or property, whether you are there or not.

Besides, what are you going to do when served with notification and you have a closet full of girls at 100 cm's? I've worked maintenance for almost 20 years and have ran into plants at least 2 times a year. I keep my mouth shut, go about my business and shake my head wondering why in the hell people take such stupid risks in a rental. I even had an idiot call to report a problem and when I arrived, I knocked and no answer. With my work request in hand, I unlocked the door and yelled "Maintenance" and the guy about had a heart attack. He was up on the loft taking care of this garden and assumed I'd go away because he didn't answer.

Some people just don't get it....

I think he was talking about a landlord in a typical single family house situation. Not an apartment. But i could be wrong.

man that is crazy...my plants are the first and only pot plants ive seen, but i do have to be less sociable since i have plants to protect...vicious cycle

I was talking about a single family home situation.

Currently, nothing seems to have happened since my last post. I will keep your advice in mind, fellow posters, and in the future I will be more cautious.

this could easily get an investigation started. Anyone saying he will or won't have noticed or told is pure speculation. Look at it from the point of view that he could have noticed, and if he was savvy, he probably knew what was going on. Whether he cared enough to narc you out, who know's, but personally I would play it safe.

I don't know what your laws are there, but where I live, legally, landlords are required to give you 24 hours notice before they, or anyone else acting on their authority, can enter your residence. This has exceptions for emergencies, such as burst pipes, but yours doesn't sound like much of an emergency... You would have been well within your rights in my state to refuse him entry for 24 hours if he showed up unannounced. Better to look like a dick than to take the risk imo.

nothing will happen without eyes on a plant... bug guy~"hey pig i saw an extension cord and a light" pig~"and... call your mom quit wasting my time" even if it comes to it its word of mouth, if they are not already on you for growing they wont do shit. pick a random person and tell the cops you saw a wire and a light and watch nothing happen for yourself
