if you don't want TOO many bulbs, buy the 43 watt cfl's. they put out 2700 lumens each and they're only slightly more expensive (about 8 bucks a bulb). you'll need less fixtures which will save space. also, i noticed you're probably using the bright white bulbs, which are fine, but for the veg stage, it really really benefits the plant to have a lot of blue spectrum light, which you can get by purchasing the "daylight" bulbs. i know it's less lumens per bulb for those, but it's a type of light the plants really need. so get a good healthy combination of the bright 43 watt cfls and some of the 23 watt daylight bulbs.

Yeah, I was high as fuck when I said earlier that I was already using daylight CFLs...turns out they were soft white. I was mistaken because earlier in the year we bought daylights for the house for regular use to cut back on electricity, and I found one of THOSE containers and posted the info. All of that is fixed now as I TRULY have the daylights in my grow room now. Check out my journal for complete updates and pictures if you're interested.
