GF got the heebie geebies, fan leaves GONE (pics)

We noticed spider mites the other day, and my lovely girlfriend agreed to spray them with neem oil while I was at work. I should also say that I bombed the room with Dr. Doom pyrethren bombs that didnt even phase these mites.... bastards.

So yeah, she got grossed out and ended up pulling off all of the fan leaves.

First question... has anyone ever dealt with this type of issue before? what can I expect. I assume the overall health of the plant will suffer, but I'm not sure if it'll produce more fan leaves or not.

She felt pretty bad, but has adopted a new optomistic attitude in thinking that maybe she discovered the next best thing. (cute yet improbable)

Here are the grow's specs:
10 plants, flood and drain.
GH 3 part nutrients
50/50 rockwool/hydroton pellets
flood 2x a day
CO2
normal temps and always PHd rez
plants are in starting week 6 of flower (9 or 10 weeks max)

The spider mites always concentrate themselves IN the buds. She did not help by removing the fan leaves. Within time, they will grow back. I'd give them some nitrogen for a day or two.

well.... with the jungle of fan leaves out of the way, she can spray the buds much easier with neem.

Thanks Roseman, that's very good to know that the plant may not suffer too bad, they havent wilted, and there are still leaves jetting out of the buds, but she took off ALL of the big fan leaves.

She just read this post and said "oh hell no, I'm going to go check the buds right fucking now!" and off she runs with that "eyeclops" toy to investigate them.

Nitrogen eh? I have General Hydroponics 3 part nutrient system, grow, bloom, and micro. should I just pick the one with the highest N value and give it a dose? I dont want to burn them. They are all still standing up as if they had leaves, no drooping or anything yet.

I'll take pictures at one week intervals so we can see what happens in this situation. I just wish I had a 'before' picture, the bin was very bushy, which is why she thinned it down, she just thinned it WAY too much.

This is not really my expertise, but I do know that those missing fan leaves are not going to photosynthesis any food, and to grow the leaves back, a little VEG nute, or some nitrogen would help. Without those fan leaves, I doubt that the buds grow much more. They will just ripen, as is.

Today is update time, the first picture was taken on 1/23, the day of the posting. This picture was taken today.

There are budsites EVERYWHERE, and they dont seem to be fattening up, they are just maturing as Roseman said they would. Crying shame, becaue it would have been a very nice harvest.

sweet looking girlfriend brah but she didn't help the situation lol as Rose said the Large fan leaves are like the main solar panels of the plant thats the best way to think of it. They will grow back with time tho. Ull just have a slower grow.......and tell ur women to put a thong on lololol

Lol i dont know how bad she hurt the plants i think they'll be fine. In my opinion she's already made up for the damage by lettin u take that pic ya dig. Good luck with it all m8

The first thing you'll wana do next grow, is get Mite-Rid and you will never have a spider mite problem again literally.

Btw i'm not sure if it can be bought outside of australia, like i buy the shit from my local dro store.

Fucking basterds are hard to get rid of and will stress the shit outta your plants..You may wanna do a bang up job of cleaning the grow area before you do another grow or the little fuck's will infest them as well.Good luck..

Thanks for the kind words everyone, there are two weeks left for these plants, I'm about to start the flush. The mites are gone from the grow room, she did a surgical strike with neem... every 4 days for two weeks, then every seven days, then every 2 weeks as preventative maintenance, along with frequent checks for eggs or young adults.

I will look into the rid-mite thing, I'd love another weapon in my arsenal. these bugs!

I'm thinking of water curing these plants when they're done, wich will take the yeild weight down even more, but F it.. in case there are any dead critters in the buds, it should get them out of there.

I'll pass on the thong request for the next update.

lmao! i was thinking the exact same thing! shes a nice 1! but ur plants r gonna b ok! the fan dont matter that much! i mean they do but think about as like u getting more light to the bud sites now!

My first grow I had a plant that I was keeping at a friends house. Someone told my friend that he should trim the fan leaves, bad idea. The plant was in flower and after that it tried to revert to veg to recover its leaves and never fattened up.....

The 'Borg' can be really hard to kill at times. Not impossible but not always easy either.

i have been marveling over this thread on another board that is about radical pruning. you may have seen it. the dude literally removes 90% of his fan leaves and harvests more using LST
