Scott's came out in a public announcement/interview that they had bought GH because they wanted to diversify in the growing market of "hydroponics" nutrients. They researched starting up a new brand and found that buying an existing company to be a far less costly way into the market.

The person being interviewed was asked if there would be formula changes to existing nutrient line's. The man replied that "No changes to the nutrient formula's are even being considered and that we (GH) want to assure our valued customers that things will continue on as they have."

It's something they would have informed you about. If, it had been an actual nutrient formula change. Take a look at your label. They don't even list a coloring agent as being in it. Therefor they do not have to inform you of any change to things not listed on that label. The change in coloring is simply a corporate way to reduce costs. Most likely they found a new, cheaper source or have simply reduced a "no effect on the actual formula" component.. They do not list binders or anti caking agents either. They are in it!

I don't understand why any coloring is needed. You understand that that does have ppm value too. ppm that the plant doesn't use and is basically in the "way"...

Feel safe in using it.....If they had to change packaging and make press announcements on reductions to, or changes in what they color it with...YOU would have to absorb that cost increase in a price hike. All the things involved in a label change for a simple matter like a different coloring agent.. Is far, far more of a costly problem then you understand.

Monsanto has nothing (0) to do with that division of Scott's - period! They partner with Scott's on turf product research and development/testing of possible new products for that division of Scott's and that division only....

The minimal cost of updating their website would far out way the risk of tarnishing their integrity and alienating their customers....and as for Monsanto, yes we all know they are saints that would never consider influencing an underling partnership with their agenda

I only use the MaxiGro, no red color. It's more like a standard Hoagland solution type nutrient ratio. Scientists don't use a different "bloom" solution. I've never seen a scientifically designed hydro nutrient with higher P than K and half as much N as either. It doesn't work that way. It's not a matter of using half as much N meaning the plants would absorb only half as much. There's always more than they can use anyway. It's not like they're going to run out before you change it.

it doesn't matter what they say now, as they have lost my confidence, it's not like my life depends on them...thank you very much

ISK what nute line are you thinking of going with to replace Maxibloom ?

I don't give 2 shits for GH or just abut 95% of all nutrient "mixers"(they really don't "make" anything).
I only tried to make you feel better in all the posts.

Jack's Citrus 20-10-20 at 1/4 tsp a gallon. Higher S for better trich's - terps.

I'm thinking of going with Jack's but my local hydro store does not carry that product.....I'm not sure if it's available in Canada, as their site only listed USA locations that distribute their products

So I would have to drive down to Washington to purchase...plus a few other odds & ends

That's me too, my local has a lot but more line Advanced, Cyco etc. a million additives to buy and mix. They do carry the maxi grow and bloom though but mostly liquids with multiple parts.

I was too. Then I found the value of ebay and general online shopping.....After all, where do you get your seeds? (ISK, bet you have better access to over the counter beans then I do)

You might give ol Jack's a call and see if he has any Canadian dealers.....Who knows what all Canadian Tire has? :mrgreen:

yeah, here in Canada it is not illegal to sell seeds, thus we have several "brick & mortar" stores that openly sell seeds...that's why we have so many online seed companies....as for Crappy Tire, they only sell the finest quality of Miracle Grow

I went to the Marc Emery store last Sunday...the 1st floor is all the pipes, t-shirt and various junk, and upstairs is a MJ smoking lounge with products to buy/consume

lots of people smoking shatter in vape pipes, but no tobacco smoking allowed.... which is so ironic considering MJ is still a criminal offence until our lazy-ass Prime Minster make good on his promise to legalize it

Bad news, Trump ain't gonna let Trudy legalize rec. Sessions already admitted that they'll be cracking down in the US on rec so why the hell would they stand by and let Canada legalize it? All they have to do is say if you legalize rec we'll slap sanctions on Canadian pharmaceutical exports to the US, which would cripple them. Trudy would have so many Pharma corps up his ass he would have no choice but to relent.

wouldn't be the first time the USA has influenced Canadian MJ laws.

Pierre Trudeau, Joe Clark & Ed Broadbent all agreed to decriminalize during a public debate in 1977....Ronald & Nancy put the brakes on that agenda

Not to necro threads, but LOL so far.

On a note thats related to the thread however, why is maxigro so much money on amazon.ca now? They have a 16 pound one for $150 but I want to try it first

that seems really expensive, as I can buy 1KG (2.2 lbs) for $15 at my local grow shop......so that 22 pounds for $150

Not sure how big of an operation you are running, but the 1 KG bag will last my for several grows (4 plants).

BTW: Since this old thread is reopened, I will state the Maxi-Bloom formula has changed more than just the colour.

When I measure it up in the gunpowder scales, I find the powder sticks to the bowl and the plastic containers I use to hold 7 grams.

This may sound minor, but if I don't sweep out the powder from the bowl and container, I can be as much as 10% off weight.

I'll use this maxi-grow until it's gone, but more than likely will not buy again, as I stated they have tarnished their reputation in my books

I wouldn't use something that high in N during flower personally -- all though I bet it will still have that nice green colour when it's done
