DAY 55 of 12/12 ~ DAY 34 of Flower

So the buds are stacking up nicely, well at least GSC #1 is, don't really know what to think about GSC #2, she's frosty as hell but the buds are just miniscule compared to her sister. She has always been a little behind #1 in terms of growth but I expected more outta her than what it looks like I'm gonna be getting. On the flipside, even though I won't be getting much outta #2 I think it's going to be fairly potent smoke so that's good I suppose.

I've been trying to figure out how much I'm gonna get outta #1 come harvest time. She's big, measuring 38" wide x 28" deep for her canopy footprint which equates to 7.39 square feet. I've counted the tops, there are 27 of them. On the low end of the estimate of dry weight I'm projecting 1/4 ounce per top. So that would be 189 grams or 6.75 ounces. Now she's got roughly 20 days to go and hasn't really put on her serious bud weight yet so maybe I'm projecting a little low? Now the high end of the estimate of dry weight I'm projecting at 1/2 ounce per top. That would be 378 grams or 13.5 ounces. This projection might be a bit lofty, but seeing as how they haven't really put they're full weight on yet, and considering that each of the tops is roughly 1.5-2' in length with bud sites every few inches or so, I wouldn't be surprised if the final weigh in comes in closer to the 1/2 ounce per top projection. But to be completely honest, if I fall somewhere in the middle of that range I'll be happy. Even at the low end projection that's 6.75 ounces for one plant, which is pretty damn good I think for indoors. If you extrapolate upon that number (6.75 ounces or 189 grams) and multiply it by 4 (which is the number of plants I can comfortably fit in my tent) I could theoretically be pulling in at the low end of the range 756 grams or 27 ounces, I run a 600w light, so using those numbers that would mean I would be pulling in 1.28 grams per watt. Obviously this is all simply speculation until the final weigh in occurs, but I'm hopeful for good results and I can't wait to find out how I did! If anyone has any guesstimates on what you think the final weigh in will be let me know, I'd love to hear some opinions!

On to the details... So over the past week or so the girls have had some leaf curl issues (see attached pics). The sides of the fan leaves in some spots are curling up and inward on themselves. There's no necrosis or drying or brown spots, just some curl. It also seems to only be affecting the top of the plant (#1) closest to the light. #2 does have some leaf curl but it's mainly on the small bud leaves themselves which I'm not worried about cause they're totally covered in trichomes. So I've gone through the process of eliminating what the potential cause of this leaf curl could be. 1- Swapped out the nutrient solution and brought it down to 650 ppm, they really don't seem to be wanting heavy feedings and they're growing great so I think I'm good there. 2- Gave them a dose of CalMag just to make sure it wasn't any sort of deficiency, they didn't respond to that so I know it's not a nutrient issue. 3- pH has remained pretty much constant at around 5.8-5.9 so we're good there. 4- My light, which is air cooled, has been pretty much within 15 inches of the tops for their entire growth cycle, and to be completely honest I could probably get the light even closer as my room doesn't get any warmer than 70.5 F during lights on, but to error on the side of caution, I raised my light up to 20 inches above the tops just to be sure it's not heat stress. I've done a bunch of research online to see if I can find any helpful solutions but there's really nothing out there that addresses this type of problem (if it even is one). I'm honestly thinking that it might just be a symptom of unstable genetics. But anyone reading this that has any insight into what might be occurring please let me know!

Anyway, here's the pics, don't know if you can see it but we're definitely starting to get some purpling on the buds! Let's hope they finish strong!

DAY 59 of 12/12 ~ Day 38 of Flower

So things are getting close to wrapping up for this grow. I've been checking the trichomes daily with my little microscope and I'd say they're nearly 100% milky. Pistils are starting to turn, mainly on the colas, but are mostly still white. This is kinda throwing me off a bit because I'm used to the pistils changing color before the trichomes are ready, and in this case it's the other way around. I've introduced some Overdrive to the solution in the hopes that it'll bulk the buds up some. Other than that, I'm on to my flushing regimen, from this point on they'll just be getting fresh H2O. I figure they've got another couple weeks to go so the flush should be right on time. The smell is getting intense, #1 has almost a sort of grapefruity aroma to it, #2 is much more lemony. #1 is starting to purple up some, especially on the tops of the colas, they're lookin real purdy. Here's some pics from last night after lights out.

I know the hype over this strain is crazy but real or not those plants are looking mighty good and frosty. It sucks to hear that the smell isn't what GSC is supposed to be but it looks like its gonna be some killer smoke. Keep us updated and give us a smoke report if you can when you finish.

So just a little update for everyone. I've been giving the girls only H2O for the past few days, think I'm gonna be chopping em down this coming weekend! Trichomes are all milky with some ambers thrown in here and there. Still got a lot of white pistils but the trichomes don't lie so if they're ready then they're ready! Stay tuned for the weigh in.

They look nice and frosty but the buds are so tiny. I havent grown any of the Girl Scout cookies are they all so tiny?To me it looks like another 3 weeks to go from the pics and the times you gave basically first week of 12/12 doesnt count for flower then what 8 weeks flower so total 12/12 time would be at least 64 days

Where did you check the trichs at? I kinda agree with FF that they look like they could take another could weeks.

Where do you recommend checking the trichs? I've never been quite clear on that and probably should have given my previous harvests a little more time.

When I check trichs, I always do so at a couple points on the plant. Always looking at the trichs on the buds not the leaves though. Leaves will give you a false results. Its also very easy to damage trichs, which will make them look amber. So its important to check parts of the bud that havn't been handled or damaged in any way.

Alright so another little update for everybody. I ended up taking the girls down this past weekend, they've been hanging for a few days now. Checked the trichs all over the plants and they were definitely all milky. The buds never really bulked up the way I thought they would but GSCs isn't supposed to be a huge producer anyway, so I'm quite happy with the outcome. GSC 1 weighed in at 2lbs 5 ounces wet with stems and GSC 2 weighed in at 1lbs 5 ounces. I figure they're gonna lose about 75% of their overall weight during the drying process so I think I'm looking at somewhere around 7 ounces dry, but we shall have to wait and see. As far as the smell goes, #1 is definitely minty and #2 is much more fuel/lemony. #2 is so white with frost and red pistils that it reminds me of strawberries and cream! Anyway, just wanted to say a big thank you to all the posters and visitors to my little grow log, it's been a fun ride and I'm happy to have shared the process with all you! Here's some pics of the drying product. That's GSC #1 only! Once I get em trimmed the rest of the way I post some more pics you everyone can see the final product and the final weigh in. And stay tuned for my next adventure, I think it's gonna be super lemon haze : )

So I only had two going but they were topped early on. Final weigh in came right at around 7.5 ounces for the two plants combined. GSC #1 pulled in 4.9 ounces dry and GSC #2 pulled 2.6 ounces dry. Overall a pretty good harvest! They've been curing for a few days now but I have certainly dipped into it already to see what I'm working with, and let me tell you, this shit is POTENT! It smokes clean, tastes great, and straight knocks ya socks off. Can't wait to see what's it's gonna be like once it's fully cured!

Skyrocket, that's funny that we are of the same mind on which strains we choose to grow. I bet your coco GSCs are gonna be epic. But yea, if I do the SLH I would definitely be scrogin it out. My GSC #1 had like 30 tops, that's what I'm looking for! No more single cola action for me, I'm all about a nice even canopy of bud. I'll keep you posted though when I get around to getting my setup up and running. Gonna tweak my design a bit to allow me to properly fit 4 plants in my tent and have the screen stretch from side to side fully. I already have most of the parts I need, just a matter of cutting some new pvc and building a larger flood table. Anyway, I'll probably go ahead a do another RDWC Design setup tutorial with step by step instructions so everyone can see exactly how to build the same system I use. Stay tuned!
