Girls are sick :(

Hey guys,

We are dealing with an issue and we are wondering if you can give us some help: we use a drip growing system, with a single reservoir for all the girls. We have a total number of 24 plants, which grow in pebbles. They ve grown normally for the first month and a half, but now they started to have their leaf tips burnt and more than that some of the leaves started to get yellow and fell.

All these came after a process of flush we did using Canna Flush. In the flush process we followed the next steps:

1. We let Canna Flush make its effect for a day

2. The next day we watered only with reverse osmosis whater, regulating at the same time the ph of the water

3. After that we went on with normal feeding

We don t konw if this was the problem or something else.

The water ph is between 5.6 - 6.2. The lamps are at 400w/4 plants. They don t seem to grow and their leaves are really sad. Something goes wrong and we noticed some white spots on the pebbles, white spots caused by the salt. They receive 15minutes of feeding once every 3 hours.

Every opinion and solution is really appreciated

Dont use the flush products,You simply just hand feed/flush with a low ppm mix.Do this at res change.Pour 2 gallons or so in each pot with pump turned off.Drain away the run off. Then resume your normal mix of 1-1.4 EC.With calmag.
Your flush probably starved them a little, every couple days you can scoop a gallon from the res and hand feed ea pot, this should help.

You need to saturate the pot every feed, think ebb and flow.Perhaps your watering technique is not getting it fully saturated.

Thank you very much Mike. Really pertinent. I will try to do so. I allready changed the watering schedule from 15min/3h to 15min/2h. Will scoom tomorrow from the reservoir and hand feed.

Thanks

I forgot..I can change the lights from 400w to 600w. Do you think it will help ? or they need some time to recover in low light ?

I put in half of nutrients this time. I am with the EC at 0.6. I am using the nuts from canna. For the moment i am using Vg nutes. Do you thing i shoult put a small amount of calMag alssow ?

Yes! Your using RO water add calmag @5ml/gallon.
Once a day at lights on give them ea a good drink. Is there roots coming out the bottoms?
I can see the burnt tips, what EC were you at prior to the flush ?

When your pump comes on does a lot of water run out the bottom?I see blue tips on your feeder hoses.

Your growing the same way I am. I have a couple questions.

Is this your first grow in this system?
Are you still in veg? Those plants look huge.

If you stopped feeding and then the lower leaves started to yellow. It means you starved some hungry plants. Or upset the root zone.

If you want to "flush" the root zone just use phd water. Turn the pumps on a few times an hour for 2 or 3 hours.

It takes a while to leach the salt from the hydroton.

I had those drip heads originally but got rid of them. I use the spray rings now. Gives the pot a good saturation.

From what was posted she ran a flush with drip clean then just straight RO water. So thats what I thought, shes starved them a little. No calmag with RO water. They appear to be beginning of flower and some tip burn.
I hope you can help her.I ran a system similar years ago.

That was my take too. I wasn't too clear on all the "flushing" and starving out the plants as a fix for this.

Should i mix the calmag with the vg nutrients that i am using ? ore just calmag with RO water ?
The roots are coming out from the bottoms but they are not wite like before. They are brownish like..
The Ec before was around 1.0 1.2

Yes, it s the first time. I had before 9 wilma systems but got bored to check every one of them for ph and ec. Now i connectet all the wilmas and have just one reservoir.

stil in Vg.

I would raise the lights until the plants catch up. You've starved them, and they can't process as much light without the necessary nutrition. Wait until tops are praying again to lower the lights back down.

I would bump EC to at least 1.5 if not 2.0
recirculating system, correct?

I found that once the roots got on the table that it is hard to keep them alive. If the roots are brown they are basically dead.

Seems like they need big pots doing it like this. Bigger than what you would think.

Those plants look big. Hope you got enough room for the stretch.

Mine look like they got root bound.
