gnats in my dirt.. What happens if you have to harvest early

Hello
I need some advise. I have 4 nice ladies that were put under 400 watt hps and 12 on 12 off October 10.. Got some nice buds and they are getting nice and fat, but I have somehow got what looks like fruit flies or gnats in the dirt and they are multiplying quickly. 2 are starting to turn brown and have tricones all over the buds but the tricones are not turning brown at all. Will the smoke still be potent? I must have brought them home from fruit or something
Any advise would be greatly appreciated.

oh, the larvae of the gnats slowly eat at your roots. if you are just now getting them, they shouldn't effect your harvest/potency at all. the above link is for organics to control/kill them

I had this problem on my first indoor grow.

What I did is take a plain piece of paper, cut a little hole in the middle for the stem, cut a line to the hole so I could put it around the base of my plant (the top of the soil).

The paper blocked the mature gnats from getting in and my plant grew nice and healthy.

if they still wont go away you can buy spray specifically for gnat, spider mites etc just go to your local grow shop (if you have one of course)

You shouldn't need to harvest early just because of fungus gnats. Sure, they're a pain in the ass, but they're not that serious (like mites, getting all in your buds). If you don't want to spray things (don't blame you), just get some of those yellow sticky traps and lay them down all over on/around your soil. It might not totally get rid of them but it will knock them way down.

Go buy that....it penetrates their exoskeleton, drying up the little bastards and kills the larvae the same........they dont like this stuff and if you apply it twice a week in 2 weeks they will vanish and never return...spread the word this is your gnat solution!!!

Thanks for all the great advise!!!
I found a story about apple cider vinegar and put a bowl of it down last night on the floor of the room.
There are thousands of them in it this morning.
I will take to heed all of your advise and I appreciate it!!

Well too bad your still in flower but this happened to mine in VEG, so I switched them to hydro, washed out all the soil, after a week they were good to go, and now growing sooo fast (my avatar). No more gnats.

Fungus gnats are a very common problem when growing indoors. Most likely you got them from whatever soil you are using as your medium. Ive gotten them really bad from dirts like MG & Shultz, but even when I switched over to FFOF and Roots Organics 707 ive still gotten them but just not as bad as the walmart brand dirts. These little bugs are more of a pest then anything, ive never noticed them hurting the potencey or taste of my final product, but they do live by eating organic material like your plants roots. The best thing ive found to get rid of them was to hang a couple HOTShot No Pest Strips in my grow lab and ive also made my own little Gnat trap by filling a small container up w/ Apple Cider Vinegar then making a small pyramid frame out of chicken wire to put around my ACV and then covering the chicken wire in fly strips by wrapping them around the chicken wire. The gnats are extremely attracted to apple cidear vinegar and when they fly in to land on the chicken wire to get next to the ACV they get stuck and die. Along w/ the No Pest Strips these two inexpensive steps help to eliminate bad Fungus Gnat problems

sticky fly traps, spiders and perlite on top of the soil keeps my fungus gnat population at bay. the perlite on the soil prevents them from laying eggs in the dirt. ive also been thinkin about getting a venus fly trap or 2 to go in the room.

i use the same things in my veg room with neem oil....i dont like using any pesticides in my flower room.

Yes Yes!! The apple cider vinegar works great. They just seem to love the stuff and it kill the little bastards...!!
I also saw where you can put pure sand on the top of each pot and they can't get to the dirt below..?!
