I would go with some

-XXtrasun 1000w HPS
-Xxtrasun AC Hoods (6" or 8")
-lamps
-1 roll panda
-6" or 8" high velocity fans

I would also consider wiring some 220v outlets and running a majority of equipment @220v for efficiency and safety reasons. Always good to have an extra breaker and or disconnect/ sub-panel in between your equipment and the service. Stay up to code.......

Should have said this before, but do you trust your friend? I know your friend is investing in this, but Be wary of putting any of your personal money into this in case it grows legs and walks away, especially when its not in your house.....

Yes I trust my friend, if I didn't I wouldn't talk to him about anything. I do not plan on putting my money in. Just time, love for the plant, and a extra light n some ppm meters:) I'm excited, we are making designs tonight I'll post them later..

Don't take the free room, the roomie thing almost never turns out well:?. Sounds like your pretty well set with your setup.
What I'd do though:
Soil (just cause i get it cheaper than a comparable water setup) (5.50 a 2cuft bag) ?$
Little army of 600W HPS 6of them (ballasts at 40 a piece, bulbs 30) 420$lol
A/c 370$
Ozone gen 137$
Other various parts 250?$
Figure around 1,150?
Are you going to be perpetual? If so, figure a little more to "split" the room up
But that's just me:hump:
(you gotta know how to bargain shop like a mofo and experience with 50+ plants is a +++)

I plan on doing a setup similar to this, I will just need to purchse lights, fans, and a tray. I will be buying pumps that pump around 250 gallons per hour will this suffice. I have a 400 mh hps to use also. I have a good source for cheap lights so I'm not worried About those however I think I will be trying convince him to maybe lower the plant count and the lights maybe 3-4 600s and the 400 I have for vegging

I have many meters, and nutrients already.

I will be helping with the room setup, and getting my friend accustomed to growing in water. We will be doing sea of green however I want to lower the number to say 25-35 I think 50 is too many to deal with.
25-35 seems more reasonable. Don't know if your pump will suffice but here is a article this will definitely answer your question.

Good Advice. Taking on a partner is always very risky. I debated it for a while, I know a couple growers, alot more expierienced then me, but but they don't have the availability of good genetics or equipment...they wanted to partner up with me. There's just too many unforseen variables in a business like this to take on partners...unless absolutely desparate, I wouldn't recommend it....you would likely end up with the smaller percentage in the end.

Dude 2g's will be crazy tight budget,, but the 4-600 will be a nice set up but I think it would be I'llil out of your budget. If you can keep your room cool 1,000 hid usualy are a lol cheaper at shops by me but they run so damn hot, but you could snag 3-1,000's and 2-5x6 trays and butt them end to end to fit your 12x12 and still sqeeze some buckets along the sides and save a couple hundo,, and I've used Cns-17 for mutes, it's inexpesive and performs well it's not the best but I think it's worth it's $,,

i dont know if anyone has mentioned this, but, if you're going to have a partner make sure that he has some general knowledge of how to grow a plant. and dont let him dick around with stuff if he doesnt.

He has general knowledge but not enough resources, and hydro knowledge. That's why he asked me.

if you're gonna be partners, teach him as you go. im sure he would appreaciate that and be more enthusiastic about the whole thing if he understands the logic behind it.

For 50 plants, just to get them the light you need, you will need 4 reflectors. Think in terms of space. 12 3-gallon pots take up 4'x4' of space, and that is the effective lighting of a single 1000W square reflector. So for 50 plants you will need about 8' x 8' of space.

You can't afford the lights, let alone the ducting fans, scrubber, etc.

So, be realistic:
Get a single 1000W HPS and build out an effective 12 to 16 plant flood system. after 2.5 months you can use some of the proceeds to expand.

I'm with the flyin pig, you gotta start some where dude and build on that, focus on quality so you can get a decent payback. My first grow I used a blue kiddie pool from Kmart for the res and grow tray for $20 with one 1000 umbrella hood an I pulled 2 lbs all for under 1000 bucks in gear
