With CFLs the advantage is that they're cheap and don't use a lot of heat. But if you want to grow more than one small plant you need a bunch of lights - the more the better.

It's been suggested a few times here, but the easiest solution is to convert a power strip into a light fixture. What you do is buy some of those outlet/light socket converters. It's a little thing you can screw a lightbulb into that has a standard outlet plug on the other end.
Then get yourself some of the Y-splitters for lightbulb sockets. That way you can plug the Y into the outlet plug thing, then plug the whole thing into one of the power strip outlets. You should be able to get at least 3 of those into a standard power strip for a total of 6 lights. That'll cover a few plants decently well. Put them as close to the plants as heat will allow.

Oh, and I wouldn't recommend duct tape to hold them in. I'd use some insulated wire like a coated wire hanger or something. (Coated so you don't have much chance of a short.) You could also use twine or string, but if you generate much heat that could pose a fire hazard. CFLs should never get that hot but it's better to be safe than sorry.

More light = better

The only reason not to add more light when you can is if it would be too hot or you can't do it safely (for electricity reasons). Speaking of, make sure you don't exceed the power rating of the power strip you use. No amount of light makes your plants grow better if it sets them on fire.

If it's just two, this will be fine. It comes to about 89 with shipping. High Tech Garden Supply Mine love it. Use some cool whites during veg, then switch to this for flower. Orrrrr.....if you prefer, get this....High Tech Garden Supply If you could scrounge up enough for the mh conversion bulb, I think you've got a complete setup...veg and flower, correct me anyone if I'm wrong.

I recently germinated some skunk seeds and ata tundra seeds, and am going to plant them soon in potting soil. I already have about 10 baby weed plants with about 6 leaves on them each. The only way you can go is compact fluorescent with that budget. Get Some daylight 6500k cool whites for veg, and some 2700k warm white for flower. The cheapest grow light at high tech garden supply that I can find is this.High Tech Garden Supply After taxes and shipping, its almost 90...if you can scrounge up some more, this may be a better deal...High Tech Garden Supply I was also told by a member on here when I was looking for a light to check my local craigslist for used ones...good luck.

i was thinkin about getting just a CFL bulb and hang it like 2ft above the plants when they vegetate, then i was gonna get a heat bulb when they flower! would that be okay? cuz they have em at home depot for like 10 $

Get cfl's as close as possible. No heat bulbs...they are NOT the right spectrum.

Honestly you can just use the 1000 watt HPS all around. Its bright enough to make them grow like crazy, and u save money by just using one type of light/balast. Switchable balast are more expensive. btw a 1000 watt HPS need like 6 to 8 feet between it and the plant or you can burn them. Make sure you have the right space for such a high powered light. I use a 400 watt HPS and it gets mighty hot in my closet, so I've added a fan at the door pulling hot air out.

sounds like punk kids or some weed haters. Outdoor growing is profoundly more risky than indoor growing. you should never have moved them. I keep deadbolts and locked doors between the outside and my plants
