reason i say canada is we dont have all the same soil brands as americans have or overseas. its easier for a begginer like me to disipher.

prolly gonna go to wal-mart.. and suggestions?

Cheers!

i use a soiless mix like pro-mix, or sunshine mix, and the last stuff i bought was made by Fafard. it comes in a 3.8 cubic foot bale and is made in canada. i usually get it from a plant nursery.

Greezy: shouldn't this be somewhere else? This section is for florescent lighting problems and information. There is a place for soil gardeners just like there is for hydro. But since you raised the question, I'm sure there are a lot of gardening products that are stamped made in Canada that are very good but why not buy something produced here in the USA? That might help save a fellow citizen's job and family from homelessness. I know it's a tough decision because we want to wrk with the best products we can afford. My favorite nutes are form there and I continue to buy them but only because I haven't found anything made here I like as well or better. Think it over friend. We're in a trade war for our own survival. HSA

HSA haha dude im just sayn for name/brand purposes. u can name a soil that might not be sold in my area. thats why i mentioned wal mart specifically. most wal marts across canada sell the same brands. it was in no way shape or form a comment to offend ur country bc infact i went to University for 4 years in Ohio. I actually love your country to be honest and im grateful for all they have done for me. icu

there is a little organic food in there for them to last a few weeks but really no nutes in it as per say.

i use the fox farm line up of nutes. liquids and solubles both according to the feeding chart at around half strength.

i guess the best way is to just plant them in the soil, but i like to soak the seeds in water overnight in a warm place, then place them between damp paper towels in a warm area like the boiler room. in a day or 2 they should crack and you will see a small taproot. sometimes it can take some seeds up to a week to crack, but most of mine are usually within 2 days.

he is from Canada so him buying products made oin canada supports his own country.

wal mart is a shitty place to buy soil, go to home depot or to Agway if you have one. if you already have nutes lined up then you can go with a pro-mix soiless mix if you dont and plan on taking care of that later get yourself something like fox farm ocean forest of fox farm happy frog. if you do go to wal mart (they generally have Miracle grow products ) get a mix that is designed for seedlings and a regular MG potting mix so that you can start off in the seedling starter mix and work your way up to the more chemical concentraded MG potting soil.

i suggest soiless mix mixed in a 50/50 ratio with the MG products also your going to want some perilite but stay away from MG perilite as its hotter than hell and you will get nute burn on younger plants.

theres a few good threads here on the boards on soils, i suggest you take a bit of time and read up and decide wether your going to grow witch chemical nutes or go organic.

i found directly in the paper towel works just as well. ceep em warm and dark and within 24 hours you should have a germinated seed(s) sometimes it can take upwards of 48 hours but this isnt the case usually.

When I'm germinating, I like to place the seeds in the center of folded and soaked paper towel (room temp) and place it in a dark container, checking once or twice a day to add water.
As for the soil, there are lots of local options available. I can't speak for everywhere, but the small town I'm originally from always had signs up selling bags of soil, cheap too! Local farm soil is good stuff, I'd suggest adding some time released nutrients as well (however my experience is outdoor).
Good luck!

**edit as for addition nutrients, check out your local hydroponic store! most towns have at least one

sounds like a plan. just make sure you have your soil and containers ready for when they crack. and get your lighting ready for when they pop through the soil

K ill try that.. i was gonna use Dixie cups obviously at first and throw a ziplock bag over the cup to gain nice humid atmosphere. good idea?

should be alright. if i use cups, i will use the plastic beer cups that are 16oz. and put holes around the bottom for drainage.

usually i will use the 4"x4" square containers that i buy from a garden center that already have drain holes.
