good or bad idea?

i got to thinking,i had some problems last month with some seeds, every thing went wrong, but the question i need answered is i have 4 or 5 seeds that have come through just barely, they have root damage and are growing slow, they have shown sex, they are at the 5th node while they should be in bloom already, instead of watching these crawl through so i can cut some clones, what if i cut it and cloned the plant, that way growing a new healthy root system, not one with a narrowed bottom that is slowing uptake of water and nutes, has any one cloned a 7 inch seed sprout.it has not been topped.

Go for it, sure you can clone it. I usually top mine when they're about that big. I chop the tip back two nodes from the top and root it. Tops really branch fast and well IMHO.

so your saying that a 7 inch seedling 6 weeks old is okat to cut off and clone the whole plant,if that right, thats great,i know how to rep now so heres for your time thanks.

You'd only cut off the top 3 inches, the older the stem the harder it is to get to root. It will send out new side shoots and you can clone those too, you can keep taking cuttings for years off it if you keep it healthy.

it only has one stem, the main stem,it has no side branches, just the 7 inch high stem from the seed.i just thought today to just clone it to get a new root system, because the roots are so damaged they will grow slow for ever, but i want the genetics,so it sounds good,i just thought that maybe you could not clone the one and only stock of a plant, but then why not.thanks.

yeah I understand that but the plant will sense it's missing a growth tip and send out new ones at the base of every leaf that's why people intentionally mutilate a perfectly healthy plant, by cutting the top off so that they get a shorter bushier plant for more clones or bud sites.

gotcha, just wanted to make sure we were on the same page,i should also put one of the cut nodes into the rockwool they seem to produce roots fast.but either way its a done deal im doing it,i wish i though of this a week or 2 ago.

update,4 of the 9 bent over and died in 5 days,i guess that the damping off or root rot what ever it is i had, stayed with the plant right through even though the tops seemed healthy but growing really slow, the desease was right through the stem, when i cut the stem and looked through a high magnifier it just looked like mush at the bend,i have 5 still healthy they where of my own breeding.but i expect them to die too.i guess when you get the deaease just kill them and start again it is a waste of time.but others may have had a better experience.

update, the damping off was started by off gassing,i have been able to clone the tops of plants that sufferd from damping off,my failures earlier were not because you can not clone a seed that has damping off but by putting rooted clones back into a plant killing tent,in case any one wanted to clone a damaged seedling.
