I am hearing alot of bad rep. towards using tin foil as a reflector. I will only be growing one plant in a really narrow but long grow space and currently the only three walls i have are all in tin foil, should this stay or go..? ( I have no access to mylar or be able to paint it)

Foil reflects less light than mylar and white paint, but it's better than nothing and it's what you got now.

Flat white paint is so damned cheap. Splurge a little.. it's got some 20% more reflectivity and no hotspots that can burn your plants.

Bad. Better to use nothing at all. I've burned my plants nearly to death before, with only 6 - 23W CFL's, because of using tinfoil. Go to any department store and get some Emergency Blankets, or some White Paint. Your plants will thank you for it at the end of the grow. :bigjoint:

My grow area is way too difficult to paint... thats out of the question and plus im germinatin so i dont like wet paint would be good for the plant. But what kind of white paint does it have to be.? because the area is like a hallway narrow and long and my plant is at the back so i have three walls and two are white but the paint is just standard white house paint is the alright or still stick with the tin foil..?

If you can get in there to put up tin foil, why is it so hard to paint? Hell, bright white spray cans would get the job done. If you dont want paint to get on the plant, move the damn thing while you are painting.

Bcause tin foil takes two seconds to put up painting you gotta be there for a while. plus its in my room and i dont want to be breathing in the paint smell

Token,

Any flat white interior wall paint would work ($7-10 gallon at walmart), with semi gloss being a little less reflective, and glossy being a little less reflective then the semi gloss. Since your grow area is small you can probably do it with a single can of the spray paint-just pull your plant out, paint, and turn a fan on the area to help it dry quicker. Shouldn't take more then a couple hours before it's dry enough to put the plant back in without any worries.

yea man i think we are all a lil confused on this "space issue" ur having however try ur best to find things around your house or job (if possible) to help with ur grow i just started goin thru old shit in my garage and found an old windshield reflector for the reflective material works like a charm and easy to move/install. i agree with tinfoil being a bad idea when there are so many other options that r dirt cheap!

I want to wish you well on your atempted grow. But, if you intend to ever get any quantity of good bud you have to be willing to commit to it a little more than you seem willing to do. Excuses are much easier to come up with than results. :peace:

Just flat white paint man, i promise itll do the trick. The only thing that the poly and lacquer are gonna do is give you a head ache:wall:

its not excuses, trust me i messed up before and im really going to town on this one, but like i said my grow space is behind a cuboard and its maybe foot and a half wide maybe less and im kinda a big boy so its hard for me to paint the very back but i got long enough arms to reach my plant and say water it or move it...
i just want painting to be my last option because it would be a bit of a burden

I wouldn't put up tin foil. I'd leave it like it is, flat white paint would be nice but if you can't really reach then don't worry too much about it, you'll still get bud, if it was me I'd put the painful couples of hours into painting personally.

To each his own.

I didn't mean to sound like I was comming down on you. When it comes right down to it, Budsworth hit the nail right on the head. We do tend to over-complicate this shit. This stuff will grow just about anywhere. You can always give yourself more of an edge, but sometimes it can be more of a pain than it is worth. I would take the tin foil down though. Those hot spots will mess your plants up sometimes. A cheap source of mylar is to use potato chip bags. The insides are really reflective. You can also find mylar wrapping paper and those shiny balloons. Not the best, but it works. I bought my mylar here:
