Good Price on Grow Light Set Up?

So I see Woot has some grow light setups and fans at what appears to be good sale prices, at least for me. http://tools.woot.com/plus/ipower-grow-lights

I don't really need a big setup so 400 watts should fine for me, I'm basically growing in space about the size of a bath tub, literally, lol. So will this set up be enough for that? I just have a rotating fan going and there's a window for circulation.

Or, thinking ahead, would an enclosed hood be a better choice just in case I get an inline fan later? I realize you don't know anything about me or growing conditions, just want to get some personal opinions as if you were just starting out too. Thnx!

400 good, 600 better, 1000 best. Check out Amazon, as they really have the best prices around, and returns are easy. A totally enclosed hood with the glass, (which I personally toss) is not the best option.. I would get a vented hood, which will better in the long run when you get your fans together, which should be done before heat actually becomes an issue, which will be as soon as you start it up. If you know that heat will be an issue, go with the 400, as it will probably serve you well, while keeping your temps in check. Good luck

I run the Ipower 400 in a air cooled hood. I am just finishing up my first grow with mine. I am happy with it. I have seen on here where someones ballast jacked up, but with the warranty, I think 3 years? All in all I say for the money and starting out you cant go wrong with it. : )

I have an apollo cooltube.....I like it, the timer that came with it was broken.. the light itself, hasn't failed me. I always recommend them.

Not sure where you grow, but I'm in New england, USA; and even in cooler part of northeast a window with fan wasn't exactly cutting it for the 400w setup, the 150w and 135w led didn't really have much of an issue though. My 400w is wing reflector no enclosed vent so it puts out heat a good foot or so under it then tapers off pretty substantially; cheap window a/c units 5,000 btu are only 100$ish, which is a good deal for controlling the environment and keep it below 80-85 under the lights, which will be atleast a few degrees, to 5-10 degrees higher then your ambient temps in your room depending on your temps inside and outside in your location. The wing reflector (no cooltube or air cooled hood) gives off the most ambient heat outta the 3 so your gonna need a bit or ventilation in a room.

what is your temp inside and outside just curious, I know some people can get away with just really efficient vent/windy location, and only running lights at night.

I run my lights 24/7 I feel its a waste not too.. im in tx, its not uncommon to go 90+ consecutive days over 100 in the summer but I manage to keep my grow between 75-78. Only using my house AC set at 75

No reason a cool tube can't work anywhere

The frigidaire 5,000 btu a/c is designed to auto turn off when temperatures outside drop below the minimum programmed operating temperature, when it becomes too cold outside up here (below 55-57ish outside at night), it disables the condenser and compressor as the gas to liquid conversion during the cooling function has higher ware and reduces longevity of the condenser/compressors life, apparently at cooler temps the gas used is harder to compress/condense then when its hot, works fine during day time up till those cold nights or after a really rainy day and its cool outside by about 11-12 around here. Removing window ac for window fan every night it happens to be too cold was a little bit pointless so I decided to just run the 150w on nights that its too cold outside, and use 400w during normal daytime.


I think in winter time I will be ok without AC running, as it stays pretty cold outside and has pretty strong gusts though, my room stays unusually warmer then the rest of the house being so tiny with tv/pc/cable boxes ect. Never really had issue with it being too hot outside with AC, just too cold lol.

Haha, dude my iPower ballast broke on me the 2nd day, sent it back and called like a week later. They ended up sending me 2 new ones on accident so I ended up getting 2 400w lights for like $160

theyre both glowing strong after like half a year of non stop use, love iPower
