If you can't find Burlap in sac form you can buy it by the roll, Used for rapping tree's for winter to protect against frost or Walmart sells it in there camping section for hunting blinds this roll is camouflage, You just need to cut and sew your own sax's. I use PRO-MIX soil mixed with sheep shit, 3 bags of pro-mix to 1 bag of sheep shit.

Shaman, I also have a few question, sorry to overbear you with them. But I still am not sure how the whole idea works, although it sounds great. So, do I just tie the open end of the sack up, once the soil is in? And also, if I were to just be growing in the woods, could I just place the sacks on the ground?

Fill with the best soil you can find, Tie the end and take it to your location, Lay it on it's side cut a hole and place plant,
Good to go

maybe a bolt of just regular cotton fabric with woodland or grassland cammo printed on it, would be nearly invisible with minimal work. I used to know of a big ass place that sold nothing but discount fabric, they had a cammo section the size of a small super america. i think they had burlap too but that was years ago, i don't even remember what it was called. as for burlap sacks, this site sells them for a few bucks a piece All-Purpose Burlap Bags * Burlap.biz
or try asking at a coffee roaster place like dunn bros, i believe there unroasted coffee comes in those bags. also specialty grocery stores that sell more upperclass stuff might have them. The other hardy bag you may easily find is the 50-pound feed sack, made of woven plastic and doubtless piling up at your local horse corral.
Man i love google!

on another note, I have never had to water an outdoor plant before, untill this year, i gave up on grow bags completely because they dried out after just a few days, what are you growing your plants in and have you been having similar results?

beaner when i first saw the burlap sac method, it was on pot tv and professor ziggy mulched his burlap sac, maybe that was to stop it from drying out, i have a cucumber plant growing out of a sac that i mulched, its growing just fine. i only watered it once this summer, because we been having dry weather. i use grass clippings for the mulch.

Yes I grow like this in swamps, Lay out some dead logs and lay the bag/sac right on the logs.

I used this idea from Shaman in New Jersey last year. And as with all my grows something came up and I had to move out of state. My buddy who was in on the grow said he was going to keep an eye on them. I told them I only wanted a sack out of it that he could mail me.

Well things were going real well, plants got about 4' tall in a very short time before I moved. I called the guy around sexing time and he said he would go out and check them every day to pull males. Well I called him a couple weeks later and he said the whole lot had pollen sacks.

Needless to say I was a little upset with him. I dont know how many pounds of crap that was we hiked 4 miles into the woods, but I do know I picked a lot of ticks off my nuts in the time it took us to prep everything. This guy would have had a nice harvest if he would have kept up on it. We had 10 sacks laid out on logs across a marshy stream. Each sack had two plants in each bag. That would have been a nice yield if his lazy ass would have walked his fat ass out to the woods.

Now I am back in AZ and am trying to think of a nice semi moist place to grow, but in southern AZ water is a hard thing to find out in nature. I am thinking of a spot but it is a fairly big hiking area. Maybe I will just wait out in the desert and jump some mexicans bringing it across the border :) that is a lot faster than growing ;). Any ideas on growing in very arid places Shaman? I know you a canuck, and it is a far cry from the southwest but I thought you may have some ideas.

I suggest everyone try the burlap sack idea. And I was thinking why not just use some old clothes, a old shirt or a pair of pants with the legs tied off, and shoved full of dirt, maybe the plant growing out of the zipper. It seems that anything that would breath, soak water and hold dirt would work.

how big a sack do you use, shaman? I got a roll of mossy oak burlap that I'm gonna start stitching into bags, just need a size.
