Good strains for SOG closet grow

Hi everyone, this is my first thread on RIU although i have been looking around the site for a couple weeks. Anyways I thought I had a simple question that has been answered many times but after a decent amount of searching and research I haven't been able to find anything very useful. anyways here is a brief description of my setup

Indoor SOG style closet grow, a veg/cloning chamber on the bottom approx D2.5' x W4' x H2.5' with 2 65w & 1 42w cfl. On top of the veg chamber will be a flowering chamber measuring D2.5' x W4' x H4' with either 1 250w HPS or two 100-150w HPS lamps. 6-8 plants at a time in the flowering chamber (10-12" pots, 1 plant per sq ft). In the Veg chamber D2.5' x W1.5' will be designated to cloning and storage leaving 2.5'x2.5' or aproximately 25 plants in 6" pots or 16 plants in 7.5" pots (2-4 plants in the veg chamber will be mothers). I want to move 3-4 plants into the flowering chamber every 4 weeks which would allow me to harvest around once a month.

Since I'm trying to harvest once a month and the flowering chamber is clearly the bottleneck i need a strain that can get through the flowering stage fast. It also needs to be a short plant because of space limitation and heat issues. High yield is also important to me but not at the expense of potency (a compromise between the two would be best).

so any suggestions for strains suited for my needs would be greatly appreciated.
-Fast flowering period
-Short plant
-High yield
-Potent

also any critiques of my setup or suggestions are more than welcome.

Um wow. Primiarly you are probably going to want a nice, tight, less branchy, not super leafy, potent (12-20% THC), Moderate to high yielding pheno Indica or mostly Indica hybrid. Don't count out good old sativa though. She can work in a SOG or SCOG (Screen Of Green) if you watch the veggy cycle closely.

But Sativas...because of their harvest times and tall nature tend to not be so popular for SOG.

The new Lowryder x AK-47 autoflowering or check out the Diesel Ryder autoflowering are always good.

Norther Lights I have heard is very forgiving and easy to grow. It yeilds nice and is tasty and potent. Can't go wrong there. Just look around and find a strain you think you might like and go with it.

You can practically SOG almost any Indoor plant...almost.

Start small...specially if it is your first grow. Don't want to spend money on something that turns out to be a learning experience...but in the wrong way if you catch my drift.

EDIT: Your gonna need more then 250w HPS with 10 plants...and usually a SOG has more then one plant per sqaure foot. Your doing a very mini version of SOG so choose whatever plant you see fit. I was thinking you were maybe doing something larger like 30-40 plants or maybe even 100.

Your light penetration is going to be iffy and your yield is going to suffer with that small of a light. I would go for a 400 hps at least then move up to a 600 when you can. Do what you do man. Just by all means make sure you have fun :

I have seen 300 plants grown in aeromist systems...in 2" pots...but organic soil SOG is different then aeroponic SOG I guess. Right lol?

thanks alot for the detailed response i'll look into those strains and think about getting a bigger hps light maybe the 430w full spectrum lamp and fitting more plants per sq ft. how many plants per sq ft should i aim for? this is not my first grow it will be my third but my first time growing more than one plant and i have never used an hps light before. so this will be my first legitimate grow i guess. i don't really understand the concept of autoflowering plants could you explain it?

A 400 hps would be marvelous for your 10 plants set-up. On the other hand I recommend 3 gal pots and 25 ish plants and a 1000 hps.

Autoflowering just means that you can hit it with 24/7 light and it will flower on its own and you can keep hitting it with 24/7 light all the way through to harvest. It just makes it easier I guess and the strains for autoflowering are getting more potent. I have noticed though that they don't get super big and the yields are only 20-40 grams a plant. From what I have heard and seen anyway. I am sure someone will correct me if I am wrong.

Autoflowering plants would be good for you though seems you have only 10 or so and a smaller set-up. They work for big SOG methods though too...accept when your doing 30-40 plants you want monster yields not little ones so they aren't as popular with commercial growers or people that grow to sell. They are still very nice plants non the less.

The autoflowering strains are cool and fun to play with nut they get expensive because you can not clone them (you can not clone an autoflowering strain you can only attempt) thats a whole nother dicssuion but first off your space is ok i growed in a closet for 3 years i love small spaces you def need atleast a 400 if not a 600 and just get an indicia dominate atleast an 80/20 % plant and u look around before you order they tell you everything on the sites down to the days and the yield per meter squared just do alot of reading and when your done read some more most of all have funnnnn

you dont need 3 gal pots.. cuz in a sog you dont veg . you put it in flower right when it shows roots.. i did a sog in a 1 gal pot and it didnt go rootbound
