yeah ive only got 300 bucks to get something although my friend has a metal halide and it isnt hot would that be safe to put in a closet and would that be a upgrade for flowering from the t5 4 bulb
Somebody else needs to answer this..

I don't know that much about T5 lights. Don't they put out quite a bit of lumens? I'm not sure people usually flower with them though, but I have no idea really.

Depending on the wattage of the metal halide, it is probably an improvement over the T5. If you have a choice though high pressure sodium would be better for flowering than metal halide (in theory at least).

Maybe they make T5 flower bulbs? I don't know.... that would be nice.

As far as safety.. just make sure it is vented alright and obviously doesn't get too hot. Enclosed light fixture (lens for reflector) is nice in case the bulb explodes... some horror stories of fires starting that way.

LED's will be used next year, but not now right now LED's serve a very specific light colour that the plant's can't really use, they will grow but not very well, people are changing them and learning how to use LED's properly for growing and they wont be out for a while, well ones that actually work that is if you want a flawed one that will not work anywhere close to 100% then http://www.ledgrowlights.com and the closest one to working alright is http://www.homegrownlights.com/100W.html good luck sir.

I beg to differ :)

Check out my LED SHIT album.

LEDs aren't shit at all. Those in the know are using them now...

Fair enough, I hope it works like yours, then in a few months the world will legalize and we won't need them :P (I am just dreaming).

oh no, I paid out the ass for it!

If it is possible to make a similar or better LED array for $600 I would do it in a secon. It is possible now, I think, but those LED prices are coming down all the time.

If your're concerned about keeping power consumption to a minimum (ie if you have to keep a low profile in that area) LED or florescent lights will do the trick, though I haven't heard of anyone using LEDs to grow. Incandescent is becoming a thing of the past in pretty much every possible way. Haven't tried it yet, but accoding to most of what I read you will get the best results from HID bulbs, but the name "high intensity discharge" alone sounds like a power guzzler :-P

OOOh tri band!!! Dude, rep, those are panels from fucking shenzen, no matter which dealer you bought them from. You can sell those too! Go source that shit, you too can be growl leds or whatever.

Really, those are 5mm leds. no matter what spectrums you're throwing... you're likely not throwing enough.

LEDs ideally wont save you anything in electricity... you should have as much wattage as possible... and get those lights on the buds!

light loses "power" "intensity" "lux" at a rate of distance^2!!!

Hmm... they are saving me 850 watts of electricity (650 at 12/12 and 200 at 18/6), not to mention no bulbs to replace.

I plan on building a more powerful array of 3-5w LEDs for better penetration in the next few months.
