Got my papers signed

So last week I took the plunge and decided to get my grow papers signed, now I just need to wait on HC to get around to dealing with them and sending them back.

My script is for 10 plants and I have been having a hell of a time trying to decide what size tent to get.
I am also trying to decide between an HPS/MH grow or going with a DIY Cob setup from Cutter (if I can get some info on duty charges/taxes/shipping times from a Canadian who has ordered from them). I will be going with soil at least for awhile as I get used to growing because I am fairly certain I would destroy a hydro crop with my level of inexperience.

Hopefully all goes well and I can stop depending on profiteers for my medication. Any advice would be very welcome and appreciated.

Nicely done die, welcome to the growing family. I started with one 2.5x3 tent and have added a 3x4, 4x4 and 8x8 and am moving up even further from there. The biggest thing I'd suggest is looking into a perpetual harvest. Having a propagation area, vegetation area and flower area have been key for me. Prop doesn't even really need a tent, just a couple t5s....
Good luck and tight nugs...

Congrats, I am also waiting for my paperwork. COB’s rock, they will cost you a lot more upfront but with the electricity savings they are worth it in the end in my opinion. I think timber grow lights are a better option as they are plug and play, they advertise on this site. I purchased from Cutter and built my own, customs was minimal. 4 ft x 4 ft tent will fit 5-6 mature plants , as sirloweed stated you don’t really need a tent if you keep the other 5 in veg. buy your soil at TSC…very cheap, they have a comparable promix mixture.

Your laughing if you only use a few grams a day ; )
I just pulled 15zips off 3x3 table in a 4x4 tent with 10 plants in 1 gal pots. The way I am designing my seclude is one crop every 2-3 months. I consume aprox 32 grams a week x 12 weeks = 385
15 x 28 happens to = 420 so if you - 385 your left with 35 grams of extra stuff (in case you run out)
I have done a few techniques this one give me the best nugs and overall crop.

With a this you can veg 1-2 weeks flower 8-9 weeks and more or less pull a crop every 2 and a half to 3 months.

A good example is my next run, I am running 8-9 week strains I am starting veg from clone in one week for one week, then it will flower until xmas. gives me 1-2 weeks veg and 8-9 for flower.
I am planing to take down the 8 weekers on xmas then the 9 weekers one week later.

600w MH/HPS
1 gal pots
coco
GH 1 part floranova series
GH kool bloom
Sweet
Molasses
hand water once a day
I run my ppm/ec from 300 range to as high as 1200ppm (I bump nutes until slight tip burn then pull back)

You could find a good mother and keep her in veg you could flower 9 plants at a time in one gal. the beauty is you can take cuts off your mother 12 days prior to harvesting your current crop, time it so that your cuttings will be rooted the day you harvest(give or take a day) then you never really go over your plant count because they do not consider un-rooted cuttings to be plants.
Then you harvest, clean your area and move rooted cuttings in all in one day, veg them for 1-2 weeks then flower for 8-9 and you will be happy.

Also coco is your best friend in this scenario because it is forgiving but also you can pump it like hydro.
I hand feed once a day partly because I have a decent amount of plant on the table, if I had a bigger space I could feed 2 or 3 times a day in coco and get an even better harvest.

I just woke up and am groggy and also I am smoking a new strain that has me feeling slow, lol so I hope what I just wrote made scene to you. If you need clarification just ask.

Oh and congratulations on receiving your grow permit.

I am a hobby film maker/producer and I have been thinking of doing a modern medical grow tutorial on DVD or for streaming(I think DVD is better for people with no internet or low data packages).
Just a very straight forward clear cut how to video, I would use coco and I would show you how to get a decent crop/harvest with a 600w in a 3x3 area.
Seeing as medical growing is not going any place any time soon, the numbers are going to be very high compared to the mmar. I think the new program will crack 100k for home grows

Ever considered flood and drain for your table? Itd save you the manual waterings and coco does VERY well with it due to its great wicking abilities

I started out looking at a 3x3 but people seemed to think that it would be limiting so I started looking at 5x5-8x8, I am definitely considering perpetual harvests just to have that constant flow of medication and no down time so my growing skills will likely steadily improve.

I have not touched coco since back in the day when it was sold in little individual 1L bricks that we rehydrated and cased shrooms with, do they sell in bigger amounts these days ?
I was worried about using coco to begin with (despite a close friend growing exclusively in it) because I was worried it was not as forgiving as a soil grow.

600W is less than I was expecting I would need, I figured I would be using at least 2 600W if not more. If I can get away with that little it could save me some more money (although I may shell out and get the extra ballast/bulbs while I have the means to).

A modern grow dvd/stream would likely be beneficial to a good number of people.

Why do you think the numbers are going to be so much higher. In all the years prior there was no exponetial growth; so why all of a sudden now?

Since 2001
No biggie.

Because in the old program I did not know meany people involved, in the new one I already know of like 20 people that did not used to grow prior.

Congrats dienowk!

I'm still sitting on the fence about filing to grow at home but in the process of expanding my small setup to run a perpetual grow using an 8x4 tent as the main flowering room. Fill half of it up one month then the other half a month later. A month after that take half out to harvest and fill that spot with new veg plants. Maybe 5 week cycles but you catch my drift. I'll be running different strains so timing may be tricky. My current grow room can be for odd ball stuff, DWC tubs etc and my main veg space will be upstairs in the spare bedroom that has 6 plants in 2 gallon pots now. 4 are ready to go into flowering any time and might be going under a 400hps as soon as tomorrow.

I'm good for 40 plants if I go legit and a friend wants me to grow for her but she only has 1.5g/day so another 7 or 8 plants.

Been actually a little burned out with growing the last couple years and the last plants I cropped were in February but getting worked up again about rolling up my sleeves and getting back into the game for real.

Good luck with your efforts!

That sounds like a pretty awesome setup. The one thing everyone seems to agree on is that perpetual is the way to go so that will definitely be my aim as well.
I am still deciding on gear but I will definitely have at least a veg tent and flower tent with the flower likely being 6x4 or so (basement has support poles preventing the 8x8 I initially wanted).

You could easily build a custom tent set up yourself any shape you need.
Pvc tubing under 1 1/2" is cheap af.
I'd probably go even smaller like 34/1" max. Lots of 90's and 45's
Wrap the inside with panda and the outside with light blocking curtains.

Perpetual is the way to go if you can stay on top of the workload.
good luck

I was on hold for 45 minutes or so yesterday waiting to find out the status of my application, they sound exhausted and like they have been getting yelled at all day. The guy I talked to said that they are flooded with mail currently and it is taking time to get to it all and to get it entered into the system.

With the length of hold time I honestly was wondering if they only have a couple of people processing all the calls/papers, it definitely seems like the need to expand their workforce.

yes i think the HC workers are doing their best..they do not make rules ..some one in health canada makes them up each week

and then everyone is supposed to comply......its gonna get messy

Wait times and lousy service has been the norm ever since the medpot program started in Canada so it's no surprise that that continues. It seems that most are getting their grow papers within a few weeks with the usual screwups for some.

There's about 1000 applications in for prospective LPs since that program started and what, 31 now actually established and churning out schwag as fast as they can or something like that. One good outcome of all this is the Supreme Court ruling in our favour when the various cases get that far.

Something I'd like to see is HC or the gov't panel working on the new laws put up some polls that all of us with medical exemptions for pot can wade in on to put or two bits in about whatever it is they propose to do. They got all sorts of suits working things out but not so much input from folks that are going to be most affected by their decisions. I know. Dream on eh.

HC is a complete shit show..
Still no paperwork and they told me that they are now processing mail dated October 19th (which is well after my sent date).. they also told me that they only recently started entering everyone into their computer system (wtf have they been doing the rest of the time ?) :wall:. It looks like I need to get more documentation sent off this time registered with tracking so that they can no longer claim it was lost in the mail and they never received it.

Super frustrated but dealing with the government is rarely a pleasant or timely process.

I over night'd mine with tracking and signature for that exact reason.
