u dont tell your lawyer or the courts it was over plants...it was over ur safety and ur familys...last i checked self defence is not a crime...and like u stated a good lawyer will get u out of anything...
Unfortunately the court will decide what the shooting was over. In todays court room your guilty until proven innocent (sadly), not the other way around.

Self defense is a very broad term, and generally speaking self defense with lethal force is very much so a crime in nearly every state. There are castle laws established in 31 states, and all of them are different. Texas is the most lenient and permits your to shoot someone on your yard to a certain degree. Florida also has very "good" castle laws, in which I personally believe they are the second best castle law state to Texas, and even in Florida you cannot just gun someone down for stealing something in your yard. In your house yes, in your yard... no. If they are in your yard when you kill them, you will have very big problems in court.

A good lawyer has a good chance of getting you out of anything, they are not guaranteed to though.

Anyone who is going to pull a trigger on someone for stealing something from their yard better think long and hard about the legal and financial repercussions. Are you going to spend $50,000 - $150,000 on a lawyer because someone was stealing a couple thousand dollars worth of plants that are completely replenishable? You're going to spend much more time in court and jail than it would ever take to grow back $150,000 worth of marijuana. It makes absolutely no sense to shoot anyone for this purpose.

I'm not trying to attack you, I'm giving you some helpful advice so that you can save a couple bucks or years.

Are you guys talking arguing over a theoretical criminal proceeding, following a theoretical and questionable shooting in a theoretical robbery of your theoretical outside garden? Really? That's what you stopped and took the time to make that entire long-ass post over? Was it worth it?

Do you think someone out there was thinking to themselves "I'm going to murder this person next time they come in my yard". But then they saw your post and changed their mind? Was that your intent? Where are you from? Just curious.

I already stated that I am going to explode the sun - you should perhaps be more concerned about that...

I'm not looking to give you your drama fix. I'm giving him (jacob213) some advice because he believes posting "trespassers will be shot" signs in his yard, gives him the right to kill someone for being on his property. I thought trying to save someone $100,000 or 10 years in prison was a nice gesture.

Or extremely naive. That was my point to begin with.

here is another tentative plan we have worked out - extend the front yard garden to double its size with one locking gate and only grow there..

MAJOR UPDATE -
my neighbor caught a neighborhood kid breaking into his house last night - caught him and found about an oz of our dope in a bag.. this guy knows the kid so he gave us back what he found and he may try to get the kid to come and apologize to us..

Nice! Hopefully it wasn't a coincidence, but it sounds like you live in a pretty nice neighborhood, so I don't think there are multiple kids running around robbing AND having pot that looks just like yours under their shirt lol. If this really solves the problem of that kid, now you only have to worry about his friends. His friends at school will no doubt hear of this story, and upon hearing the details of how it all started, they will have the location of YOUR outdoor grow :( . I hope you find a definitive solution.....I wish I had one for you.

Don't know if yours is a a legal grow but security systems, exploding suns or shooting 16YO little bastards just is not gonna solve your problem.
Sorry to say but you have lost one real fine growing location. I can't imagine being able to nurture the babies in your own backyard. Actually using a HOSE to water. WOW!That must be way cool!!!
Hey Virulient... Can't stop people from sounding stoned on a weed forum. chuckle chuckle...I don't think jacob really plans on shooting someone over a grow but when you get burned you really feel like you should.
All in all there ain't nuttin good about the outcome for the OP.
