gradual light change

really couldn't find any thing on it. instead of putting lights from 18/6 immediately to 12/12, would slowly adjusting them over a period of time be beneficial?? my thinking is the sun doesn't just change the day length overnight, it takes time, slowly making the days shorter.

what effects would it have?
any benefits?
downsides? is it stupid and a waste of budding time?

thanks

Good question. I've seen the topic on here b4 but no one really settled on it being a good idea or not.

Thats weird I was just thinking this the other day. Got no idea though. I suppose the argument for a sudden change is that with hydroponics and indoor growing your trying to make things happen faster. I've got nothing t base the argument on though.

yeah - for indoor flipping it straight to 12/12 sortof pushes the plant to start flowering right then... i know some people who let them in the dark for 24 hrs before starting the 12/12 to push them harder (but i dont like that).

the slowly changing light times would make flowering last for longer than 8 weeks, because the point at which the plant starts flowering is strain specific, so you wouldnt know when they actually started.

the only time this would be beneficial is if you were using very minimal lighting, and the plants were still healthy... you can basically draw out the cycle so they get more light (because they spend more time under it) which will give you higher yield, but it will take more time.

i know - if i ever tried to do this in my cramped 2KW closet the plants would overgrow the whole thing and would get out of hand.

seems kinda couner productive to me.. why not give the plants all the light they can use and then flower them out as fast as you can... faster and cheaper on hydro.. more weed in your lungs or more cash in your pocket in less time but hey if we didnt experiment we wouldnt learn shit so if it really tickles your pickle give it a shot
