Green Ninja - in Soil
Please feel free to post comments

Howdy, thought I’d share this grow with everyone, since I could not find any real-world information about this strain; just the same marketing stuff as everywhere. (below).
This strain’s description seems to tick the boxes for my tiny grow space (38”w x 21"d x 48” high)

Green Ninja (Heavyweight Seeds) grows small and stocky, with huge compact colas coating her branches. As though to underline her stealthy skills, Green Ninja generates suprisingly little smell during growth - making her an outstanding selection for the urban gardener. Once harvested however, her taste is unbelievably rich, a headspinning blend of exotic spices and sweet fruits. Mainly indica, the flowering period is 9 weeks, and also the high calyx to leaves ratio make Green Ninja a sinch (sic) to manicure.

GENETICS: Northern Lights x Afghani TYPE: 70% Indica

CBD: 1.0% - THC: 22%

I've done soil a few times under LED. I just tried to do bubbleponics and it was a complete failure. I got two Green Ninja Seeds (from Herbies) up to the 4th node when the roots turned to brown mush, from the rockwool on out. Not enough oxygen, too warm, I dunno, but let’s not look back.
Managed to get 3 cuttings off each of the two plants. The two seeds were two different phenotypes. One had real fat indica leaves, the other’s were much thinner, and finger-like.

My Solution per gallon:
1/5 tsp GH Maxi-Grow
1 cup chamomile tea (mild fungicide)
2ml GH RapidStart Rooter Enhancer
1 ml SM90
2 ml GH Diamond Nectar

In a week, if they root, I’m going back to ProMix BX or Coast of Maine’s Gardeners Gold or some mix of the two in 7 gallon fabric Smart Pots + Azomite + Earthworm casings + guano + Dolomite. (Have all on hand, mix tbd) I'm done with hydro for a while.

Here are the six cuttings on a heater mat, under a dome. 48 hours since being Dip-n-Grow'd and put in rockwool. They are under a 10 watt 6000K LED flood ($6 Wal-Mart)

Soil Mix:
Gardener's Gold - 7 gallons
Pro Mix BX - 7 gallons
Perlite - 3 gallons
Worm Casings - 4lbs
Bat guano - 2 cups
Azomite 3/4 cup
RTI Xtreme Mykos 1/2 cup....
To be used in two 7 or 10 gallon fabric pots.

14 days after dip-n-grow, (yesterday) I peeled away excess rockwool and planted the best 4 of the 6, in ~ quart sized containers. All 6 had rooted.

Only BioRoot and GH RapidStart Rooter Enhancer in 6.5pH water for the initial soak yesterday.

Currently under an eBay LED UFO which draws 50watt, and two 10 watt 6500k LED flood lamps. The average daytime temp is 75F .

I see some 'claw'...

On a sidenote, the only other (NL x Afghani) strains I have found referenced are "Couchlock" and "Aurora Indica"

peace,

howdy - midweek update and confession
Rookie mistake. To keep the temps up in the garden, I left the heating mat on and under the round tray which was holding the 4 girls. You can see it on the left of the previous post's picture. Not much was happening, the plants just seemed to putter along. Then last night it dawned on me I was cooking the young roots! I pulled the seedling mat to the side of the space so it still helps to heat a little, but it is no longer under the tray/pots. If I leave the space alone for 3hrs, the 'canopy' temp will top out at 75F. Looks much better in just the past 18 hours.

current lighting:
2 x 10 watt LED 6500K floods
1 x 55 watt eBay LED UFO (switched 'off' in photos)

the plants look more yellow then they actually are to the eye. The very first photo above was under an enhancement setting, I will take the next update pics using both settings on the camera.

peace,
-T

Howdy all....
I picked the best three plants. The one in the terracotta pot above had the least growth/root structure.

The water has been plain 6.8pH tap water with a tablespoon of Epsom salt / gallon. The claw seems to be gone with just the plain water.

They will soon go into 5 gallon fabric containers for the duration. Original plan was 2 plants in 7 gallons, but 3 in 5 gallons will hopefully work out better. Found a great calculator for how many pots can fit in a rectangle. --> http://www.engineeringtoolbox.com/circles-within-rectangle-d_1905.html

current lighting:
2 x 55 watt eBay LED UFO

Photos taken with auto and enhanced camera settings under 6000K LED True color is somewhere in the middle.
Comments welcome.
peace,

It’s been a busy 9 days.

Due to the claw in the quart containers I added more ProMix BX, Perlite and Worm Casings to The mix is now:
Gardener's Gold - 7 gallons
Pro Mix BX - 10 gallons
Perlite - 4 gallons
Worm Casings - 8lbs
Bat guano - 2 cups
Azomite 3/4 cup
RTI Xtreme Mykos 1/2 cup….

Girls were moved to 5 gallon fabric pots, (~ 3.5 gallons of soil) and watered with “The Stew”

"The Stew” per gallon
aged tap water - pH 6.9
1/5 tsp GH MaxiGro (10-5-14)
2ml GO BioRoot (1-1-1)
ending pH: 6.5

current lighting, for the duration
NeoSol NS 19/5

Within a few days I noticed red stems, especially under LED then some middle-aged fan leaves had browned along the serrated edge. I’m thinking potassium deficiency/lockout
Next watering (with the stew) I checked the runoff. pH5.5, whoa! The ProMix? the guano?
So I spent the night flushing with 6.9 pH tap (non aged) until the tail end of the runoff was at 6.1, about 5 gallons each, then added some ‘stew’ and let that run off.
This flush was 2 nights ago. The soil won't dry out for several more days.

They don’t look pretty, but they are growing. I topped all and also strapped down #1 (on the left) with wire. Netting for SCROG has been obtained.

#1 and #3 came from the same mom/seed. They are a little mottled lime/green.
#2 from another seed, and has always been the prettiest. in hindsight, I probably should have kept 2 from #2’s mom.

your comments are welcome

Peace,
-T

Greetings RIU,

Weekly update: Still battling a pH issue. I think I am a week behind where I should be. All plants have been tied down with wire and topped in prep for ScrOG.

On Monday, I top-dressed with 6 tablespoons per pot of Espoma garden lime, and fed 1/2 tablespoon of GH MaxiBloom + 3ml Bio Root per gallon. pH of the stew was 7.0. I went with the Bloom formula because I think there is enough N in the mix at the moment based on the previous clawing.

Girls 1 & 3 (same mom) are starting to take off. Girl #2 which was doing the best last week is now doing the worst with signs of lockout. I took off many of #2's damaged leaves.

Also, as the mix has settled quite a bit in the fabric pots, I will be top dressing with a bit more mix at each watering.

Thanks for visiting,
-T

To aid in draining, I raised the bags onto bricks, and have a fan blowing through the channels underneath.

Screen in place, due to continued growth of #1 (now moved to the center, swapped with #2) Wire tie-downs removed. Hoping they only need another two weeks in veg.

weekly photo, colors are still good, no more spotting. Another week to fill in the 'corners of a circle', then flipping to 12/12. Same positions as last week 2-1-3

Peace

I'm not sure about the stretch of this strain or your head space. Maybe another 7 or 10 days of veg will work out nicely.

10 days since the 12/12 flip, stretch time. The yellow flypaper shows how much they have grown, when compared to the pix above IMG.jpg
