hi, i have a small cupboard with a 400w hps and two plants (just been germinated and put in little pots). the temperture off my room goes to the max of 50 degries celcius on the termomemeter, how can i fix this. could i direct a fan towards the hole i cut in the cupboard another 1 on the light and a dehumidifier??

for one i would NOT recommend using a 400w HPS on seedlings. they will for surely burn up on ya.. go with some fluros or cfls first. just my thoughts. gl

I had to use a metric table but 50c=122 Far. and that is way too hot. I agree get some CFL in there and get a plan together for the vent. You don't give a great deal of information on the cupboard, more details and maybe some pix would help.

I would definitly use cfls. thats WAY WAY WAY to hot. they will die. And make sure you vent the hell out of it if you do use hps.

yea ill put some pics up soon when i get this laptop working properly along with a pic every week as a journal. anyways would a dehumidifier and a few little fans blowing towards holes cut in my cupboard roughly this size but all wooden work?:

i grew about 6 or 7 plants under a 400hps from seed with the light about 30-40cms away from the tops and the plants and they absolutly loved it! from start to finish

i was using a small closet, a exhuast fan for intake at the bottom left and a exhaust fan at top right of my closet and my temps never reached to high.

With a 400w in a small cupboard, you are going to need some serious exhaust power. Get a big inline exhaust fan, but be warned, its going to be VERY noisy. If it isn't noisy, its not powerful enough.

I would also consider a cool tube for your light.

I've had the same heat problems as you and I've solved them all with a good exhaust setup and a cool tube. But you are going to have to spend a few hundred at least. The fan alone will probably be $150.
