I like your grow. I think you should move the lights closer to the plants and You have a fan right there so you dont have to worry about heat, atleast imo

BikeSkill: I appreciate the thought, the reason I have the lights where they are is to encourage a little bit of stretch in the grow. Most ppl avoid that, however since I'm keeping it small I need to rely on the growth flowering brings. So having the lights up a tiny bit more than normal will compensate. I hope that made sense I'm pretty baked

So I didn't get a chance for a evening update or pictures tonight had a wedding to go to. So look for an update first thing in the morning. I did have a look at them sleeping with the green light when I got home, I decided to leave the fan on low in the box for the night and not have the plants directly infront of it. This will get the airflow up as well as lower the temp a bit and still give the plants some more wind than they normally get. Tomorrow morning I'm going to fly over to walmart before I go to work and grab that small 5 buck fan. I'll feel alot better having that in the box before I go to work and this big one out !!

9/2 Morning Update

So not a whole hell of a lot to update around here, I'm starting to really feel the itch of wanting for these lil plants to show me some signs of sex.. HOWEVER, I have read on quite a few occasions the longer it takes the more likely it is to be a female. The plants are still doing their daily growth thing. Although I will say, doesn't seem as dramatic in the past day or two as it was few days before that...Coming up to watering #2 with nutes and this time I'm going to up the doseage a little bit more and same with 1 drop of SuperThrive/gallon. As for pictures I'm slipping this morning guys, Im just really not feeling well and hopefully my morning meds will help. Anyhow I took a top and side shot of both plants and then a shot of them together.. I have a few macro side shots but no point in uploading them as really same as yesterday no new signs to sex the plants from.

There is one minor thing I'll make a comment on as I can't get rid of "it".. lol smell time has begun in my box, HK's leaves are stinky something fierce. I touch them and my fingers are still smelling after typing for 10 minutes. So atleast I'm aware there is most certainly development on an daily basis.
Thats about all I'm going to say as I need to go lay down..

Man, I've been away recently so i had some reading to do to catch up on this thread... good work bro! Once those plants show sex, throw 'em back into veg and you got good mothers! (if they're female that is)

CGM: Thanks bud, glad to see you back in the thread !!.. The plan is once they show sex and WHEN I get a female I'm going to take 1 or 2 clones and use those clones as my new moms...For reasons I'd rather not talk of, I have to keep things on a really small scale for the time being, so I have to flower and harvest these plants (assuming they're female) but to keep a smaller clone in with my tomatos and cucumbers to slowly grow into a mother is perfect for my situation.

As I said just a bit up here.. I just watered my 2 plants.. Gave them the next increase in nute levels and we'll see how it goes, I'm just really prayin I didn't burn them at all. I tried to keep it low but not too low as there is probably 1 if not 2 more waterings with veg nutes then I have to get my hands on some Bloom nutes.

I'm around for another hr or so to answer ? or comments !!

Just 2 quick things...

The plants took to their watering pretty well so far they always droop a bit right after water but are already back up and perky.. I'm starting to see some very minor burning on TH, which means I guess I went a bit too heavy on the 20-20-20..Either way I hope to have Bloom ferts ASAP and will be dropping the 20-20-20.. Is the Shultz Bloom Ferts from Walmart any good ??? It could be a cheap temp solution for me till I can afford the PureBlend Pro Bloom....Anyway Just got back from WalMart to get the mini fan I was talking about, its just as powerful as the big one I have yet almost half the size and its brand spaking new, therefore its cleaner.. even after my cleaning of the old fan the new one is WAY cleaner. I took a pic to show the size differences, I'll show the fan in my box at my next photo update. I also managed to score 2 smaller pen holders at walmart, unfortunatly they don't fit in any of the others I've bought.. I have a nice collection of them coming along lol about 4 now, also took a pic of those in hopes that maybe Wolfman (or anyone for that matter) could take a look at what I have and make a suggestion.. I can make a filter but it would have the bottom 1 inch no carbon.. why bother all the air would escape unfiltered then.. I could cut the cups to make it work, but then sealing them is a bitch if I use duct tape I take away surface area.. lol anyway maybe someone a little more DIY friendly will chime in !!

i just did wolfmans carbon filter also. i went to office depot and the cups in the picture to your right look like the ones they had their, and to the left would be the wallmart ones. but it looks like you would need either a smaller cup or a bigger one. before i found the right ones i was thinking of an alternative route, and at home depot i found some mesh screen, that you could cut and roll into a cone shape- this would be the one to go inside the bigger cup. to connect it together all you would need to do is weave the two ends of the cone together and you have a cone shape smaller filter.

lol... you know, when I first started playing with the idea of growing with cfls.. every one told me that my plants will be all stretched out... I think several of us have proved that wrong.. and had to actually promote stretch.. who would have guessed lol

and FT... that is a nice collection of cups there mate lol... I can't tell, but does the 2nd from the left not fit into the one in the far right?

I just build myself another one for the 2nd flowering chamber.. but had it unfiltered for 2 days... I enjoyed the sweet aroma for a while =]... by they way... I wounder how many of us on here have "stinky keyboards" lol.

I'm looking at a pop bottle in front of me right now... and was thinking.. If you find a pop bottle a bit smaller in diameter as the cups.. you could cut it to hight... poke a bunch of holes in it... put it in the dress sock and use that... just a thought.


Ether way... your girls are doing great man... after the 2nd week of flowering, start looking for hairs =]

Got home too late tonight to catch the ladies in light time, so I had a quick peak with their green light and MAN did they grow again.. I guess they can definatly handle the upping of nutes, which is excellent.

Did anyone have an answer to me using a Schultz Bloom fert till I can afford the PureBlend Pro Bloom.. or just stick with my Veg nutes till then ??

DIY Carbon Filter Wolfman_Zen Edition

So I couldn't find a "pair" of these damn cups that worked for the plan so thanks to you guys the idea of a bottle came up, well when I got home tonight I looked around and low and behold on my desk is a empty IsoPropyl bottle.. looks good so I check it out.. BEAUTIFUL FIT.. Layed everything I needed out had Wolfmans thread open and followed the steps perfectly (btw Wolfman, Awesome tutorial brother, nothing left to the imagination at all.. very thorough. Excellent Job man)

I didn't take pictures of the process, if you want to see that check the link in wolfmans signature. I did take pics of the bottle I started with, then it cut in half and poked about a billion holes in it.

I'm quite happy I managed to get this working, as I'm pretty sure the pantyhose I had over my fans although a great filter was keeping in some of the heat on my exhuasts. Now I'll have these badboys so I'm not too worried. The only problem I'm having (mentally) before making a second one, is that my other exhaust fan is a 120mm fan, these cups are 1/2 that at best so if I tape it on I'll be covering a large portion of useable fan. However if I dont tape it on, then I'm leaving an area for potential light/fur/dirt.. I think what I'll do is make a "mod" so I'll make it the same but use an extra pantyhose foot to put on the outside and then pull over the rest of the fan, it'll allow a tiny bit of "smelly" air out, but I think I can deal with that. If it gets too bad I'll have to revisit this issue and figure it out. I'm not going to do anything tonight on the 2nd filter, I'll think it through (already thinking 1L pop inside 2L.. Thats just a shit tonne of hole poking !!

Glad that worked out for you... just keep an eye on the temps... the only thing that can be concerning would be the number of holes... i'm sure the more the better... but as long as you still have a descent airflow.. then you are good to go...

hey FT I was sitting here smoking and thinking about your grow and the green light, is it just a regular bulb with a green tint? or is it a bulb designed for some specific purpose?? the reason I ask is I remeber reading a thread about lights and if its just a tinted bulb I dont think the tint blocks all the "useful" light, and if thats the case you are setting yourself up for a hermi with those burst of light during the dark cycle...just something too think about.i am going to pass out now gnite

Yeah I was debating putting in more holes but the plastic was a bitch and I was testing by filling with water (well trying too) and then timing how long it took to drain, after 2 or 3 go backs to make more holes the flow was good enough for my small exhaust..My larger fan is a different story.. I'm in the process of putting more holes than you can imagine in 1/3 of a 2L coke bottle.

Thanks D, I'd love to take credit but its all Wolfman...However in saying that, I do agree, it truly is amazing what we come up with !!
