Greetings Growers!

I have had quite the journey getting back to a place where I could setup a grow.

The Setup:
  • 21 sq. ft. room.
  • 1x 150 watt HPS light with timer. (Note: will likely be adding numerous CFL's to room as it progresses)
  • 1x Air circulating fan with filter. (Note an exhaust fan)
  • 1x 750-1500 watt fan heater.
  • 1x small humidifier.
  • 1x small heat pad.
  • Soil Based.
  • Plan on using added nutrients to water.
I plan on modifying or upgrading things as I go. The equipment in this grow was used in my previous grows 4-5 years ago. I am making use of them now, but do plan on taking advantage of newer systems when I need.

Upgrade Plans:
  1. I have Panda Film on order to cover up 3 very large windows and one smaller one.
  2. I know I want to setup an auto watering system for when I go up to the mountains for some skiing or a week long backpacking trip.

In my household I am allowed up to 18 plants, of which I am allowed to have 9 in the flowering stage. I am planning on growing different varieties throughout this grow. Starting off with two, grower friendly Indicas.
  • 4x KC Brains - Northern Lights #5 (reg)
  • 4x KC Brains - Mango (reg)
I have grown both of these in the past, but was unable to keep them through harvest as I was moving around a lot and ended up backpacking for 5 months.

The other varieties I have on order are:
  • KC-42 (reg)
  • Stardawg (auto-fem)
I am really looking forward to this grow and I welcome you all! If you have any tips/suggestions/advice feel free to comment... just be nice to everyone. I enjoy checking out other grows, so I'll be doing that as well.

Last note: I actually have the 150w HPS light much closer (it doesn't put off much heat) to the pots than shown in the pictures. I couldn't get a good picture with its close, so I moved it away for pics.

Day 2 of having the seedlings in soil. All four of the NL #5 have popped and are growing fast. Two of the mango's are up and one is still out of sight. The last of the mango seeds was no good. I have some extra seeds that I may add to the mix, but for now I'm going to stick with these 7 until my order of new seeds arrives.

I added the CFL's. I didn't realized I had bulbs laying around. Next time I'm at the store I will pick up some new larger CFL's. Currently I have 3x 13w 2700k and 1x 13w 5000k. So when I say larger, I mean wattage.

I am also working on a timelapse of these guy/girls (dunno yet) which I'll continue to put together every couple weeks.\

Last update: I ordered FF off amazon, as I've used it before in my previous grows and like the results. As I read through new journals, I am realizing I most likely used too much in the past and that was the cause of some of my challenges I never could seem to fix. I'll keep that in mind moving forward on this. I also ordered a pH tester, as I seem to have lost my old one. Nothing fancy, just $15 electric one.

Also I need to note: I specify I germ'd KC Brains - NL #5... when in fact, that doesnt exist... Instead it was their NL Special. Just to set the record straight.

So I went Skiing for a couple days, which meant I had to test out my auto-watering system. It is an old method I used in my previous grows. It will keep the dirt moist for 36-40 hours and it consists of putting cotton strips in cups of water, then putting an end of the cotton strip down the side of the pot. I plan to setup up an actual water pump system which could reliably feed my plants at a set time interval.

Over the past few days, they have grown quite a lot, and are looking healthy. I put two more mango seeds into the germ process a couple of days ago. Previously only 3 of the 4 original seeds germ'd successfully. So far, 1 of the new seeds as popped and is starting to grow a feeder root. I think it will be ready by the end of tomorrow to plant in soil. The other seed shows no signs of life.

I can only upload 10 pics per post, so these pics are ones I took on Wednesday afternoon. 1/19/2017

Update - January 23, 2017- Day 7 Veg.

  • Installed a vent near the ceiling of the room.
    • I had also ordered a 4" Hurricane Fan and Phresh Carbon Filter. My grow is approx. 160 cubic feet. I do not need it right now to remove heat or moisture, mainly to keep the smell down in the house once I start flowering these girls and to keep fresh airflow moving through the room.
  • I plan on ordering a 250w HPS light very soon (still looking for the right deal).
    • I will either use it by itself or combine it with the 150w HPS I am currently using. It mainly depends on what I decide to use for lighting in my Veg. Box.
  • Veg. Box Plans.
    • Something I am still planning out and getting ready to start setting up. It will house at least 2 mothers, but will most likely be nothing more than a very large cardboard box with a couple cpu fans moving air and CFL's providing the light.
Plant update: 4x NL Special and 3x Mango are growing very nicely. No issues other than me dropping 1 of them and needing to re-pot it while working on installing the room vent. The two new Mango seeds are now in the soil, but neither are showing themselves. They seemed to be slower growing than the 7 already growing (which seemed to take off within 24hrs of germ). Of the 7, it might be difficult picking out mothers... but time will tell.

Grow Room Update 1/23/2017

Panda Film arrived today. The Room is now sealed completely except for the vent (at the ceiling) and small cracks in the door. I will be adding one more vent (intake) near the floor.

Hurricane Fan and Phresh Filter will be arriving Wednesday/Thursday along with a 300w (equiv) LED light.

Other Additions include working toward getting a Veg Box set up, which I now have a plan for. (The box with a boot in front of it)

January 28, 2017 - Veg Day 13

They girls are all growing rapidly. 3 Days ago I installed a new light; Viparspectra 136w (300w/250w equiv) LED. Honestly I never thought I'd go to an LED light, but the low power cost and reviews on their effectiveness made it irresistible. I also setup the Hurricane 4" inline fan with a Phresh 4"x12" filter. The first picture is before installing the new light (3 days ago). The second is from moments ago today.

Also, today I re-potted all plants. Each now has it's own pot and depending on their growth, I may not move them into larger pots before flowering.IMG_7925.JPG IMG_7937.JPG
