Let's hear what the cheap bastards are using instead of hydrotnon. I read were some people use pea gravel or aquarium rocks. Would boiling river rocks clean them enough for use? How about LEGO? Just thought I would pass it around.

driveway gravel, pea gravel, 3$ for 50lbs.... :p

perlite works well too, but doesn't offer the same support.

Would you guys suggest boiling the rocks first? Don't those candies run the rissk of attracting bugs?

Your local garden store carries 50lb bags of crushed red lava rock. The lava rock is a great source of iron and other micro nutrients including silica ! It's also very porous and holds a little bit of water like pumice or pearlite.

Make sure you wash it first !!! There a lot of smaller grit and dust that you don't want to add to your reservoir or grow.

It's GREAT stuff after you properly treat it !! & reusable..... for those green people out there.
