grow mediums

ok so my friend and me are arguing about the difference between soil growing and hydro systems (since im soil growing and he has a hydro system)

He's trying to say that anything grown in a hydro system is going to be better then anything in soil..

So basically he's saying if i took 2 clones from the same plant and put one in a hydro system and one in soil and under great conditions for both the hydroponics will always grow the plant better.

I said its not really the grow medium that matters, its genetics, lights, and how your growing it (pot size, nutes, ect)

Who is right?

I think you are both right. Soil grown weed may take a little longer and yield a little less but a lot of people think it tastes better. Hydro tends to grow plants quicker and yield more in a short amount of time. There are advantages and disadvantages to both. Don't forget that the gardener has a big impact on how plants grow as well as lights, nutes, and genetics.

You are. You could be growing with premium soil & nutes with a quality light and he could be growing with shitty nutes and cheap lights. Yours might take a little longer to grow but it will be the superior product in the scenario that I described, assuming you're on top of your shit.

Soil tastes better - this is indisputable

Genetics #1

Light #2 - In fact I think I could grow better weed using top shelf genetics under CFL (in soil), than any random bag-seed in hydro under HPS).

#3?

Side by side hydro may grow faster, but not always. It depends on the strain.

So true. There are so many variables and sometimes it comes down to how an individual plant grows.
