Grow tent Discussion

Hey guys, ill try to make a long story short without leaving out any important details, to start im downsizing from a 2 story condo to what is essentially a studio apt. In my condo ive pretty much always had the downstairs setup as my main living space and had the entirety of the upstairs for just my bed and growing. So in my current setup ive been using a 4x4 tent for flower a 2x4 tent for veg and a small tent for propogation and cloning. This has worked great for me but has honestly always been a bit overkill, i only grow for self supply (and occasionally sell some to friends) but i dont "need" to be at the scale im at to get by, so with that in mind and the obvious space downsize coming up, im looking to downsize the grow also.

Ive been looking at the 2-in-1 tents available and my instinct tells me i should get the 48x36x72 size because itll translate to a 3x3 area for flower, and a 1x3 area with a rack in the middle giving a space for mothers on the bottom and clones on the top, this means id almost have the same space for everything as i have now but compacted into one tent instead of 3. Heres whats holding me back from just pulling the trigger on that size though-
1.- theres only one corner in my new apt that i can use for the tent, its the only spot that ill have close access for conditioned air intake as well as close enough to a window to exhaust out of, however if i go with the 4x3 size then it will slightly block the only air vent in the room (will block about 2 inches of the vent) which im not overly worried about because the intake ports will be right there so ill have nice cold air going in the tent always, however i am slightly concerned that it may result in the majority of my a/c being sucked through the tent immedietly and then exhausted out which means the rest of my room will be uncomfortably warm, i believe that having a fan on the floor infront of the vent should help get the a/c all around the room sufficiently though.
2.- i use an automated watering system and my current reservoir is a 30gal barrel, as well as a chiller unit, so these together take up another 2x3ft area roughly, my new apt is only about 15x15ft so space is precious, ive already thrown away about half of my belongings in preparation for this move, but between my queen size bed, 65" tv (with a nice glass entertainment center under it), my computer desk, dresser, and a couple bookshelfs the 15x15 area is being filled up quickly, so with that in mind i cant really make the 4x3 tent "fit" unless i downsize to a smaller barrel and maybe rig up a shelf or something to have the chiller placed above it to save space.

The only real alternative ive found is the same style 2-in-1 tent but in a 36x24x53 size and i wont lie i kinda like the idea of consolidating down to this size, obviously i know id have to grow much smaller plants than im used to but again its for just self supply and the occasional sale of a quarter so i think id still manage to get more than i need out of it, my main concern with this smaller size is the head height, 53" is so damn short! I mean my pots are about a foot tall, with a 4in carbon filter and my platinum led brand lights thats at least 9 inches down from the ceiling even if i fix the lights in place rather than hanging them on adjustable ropes, so that leaves only 32" from top of the pot to the lights, id have to flower clones immedietly after they root and hope they dont go over 2ft tall. but going with this size would mean i dont have to purchase anything other than the new tent, if i go with the larger tent i will have to get a new smaller reservoir as well and that will mean having to fill and mix nutrient water more often which doesnt thrill me lol.

so what do yall think? which would you go with? no matter which size i get the flower side will have 450w platinum leds over 4 plants and 150w platinum leds over 2 mothers, the only difference will be in the 4x3 those 4 plants will have a little more stretching room and can be mid size plants and in the 3x2 theyll be 4 smaller plants but either way itll be a perpetual grow and since i only need about 1.5oz a month it should be plenty.

I would go with the larger tent, you will most likely need the extra headroom. 4.4 feet doesn't leave you much room.

I was looking to do exactly the same thing for pheno hunts and to keep mothers and clones going. Ended up using a Vivosun 4x4x6.5 tent along with a 30x20x62 tent using a 6" extraction fan connected to both tents. I looked at a combo tent and it just made more sense to use two separate tents.

@Mcoocoo i agree the headroom would be valuable however the overall footprint of the smaller tent+current reservoir is still smaller and more efficiently used space than the larger tent with a smaller 15 gallon barrel (looked it up and would only save me 4inch circumference on the barrel) i also think it would be a little more challenging and fun to attempt getting max yield out of this small of an area, like a weed bonsai garden lol

@GBAUTO i currently use seperate tents so i understand but the whole point here is im downsizing to a significantly smaller area where multiple tents is not an option. As i said to mcoocoo above i believe it will be a fun challenge to try for max yields out of this small of an area. Since the 4 plants in flower will never be on the same schedule i wont be able to do a true scrog unless i build a screen frame for each individual pot but perhaps thatll be the way i go... dunno yet, but yea i think im leaning toward the smaller tent atm
