In my personal experience yield does suffer with LED, but the loss doesn't make up for the excess strain on HVAC appliances & the plants themselves. I notice with LED you are going to have overall a more robust plant start to finish. HPS tend to have very little blue spectrum and it causes the plants to basically be "floppy". Lots of people will simply attiribute the "floppyness" to weight but in my experience, a few grams on a branch isn't going to make it flop over.

LED work for me mainly because in the long run I want to pay less electricity and deal with less HVAC issues and or problems during big heat waves like I had this year in Michigan even indoors underground..

If you want to grow long-term then LED usually are the best option for mostly less power, less heat, good end product..

I've noticed actually the LED cannabis tends to get higher reviews from patients opposed to HPS grown. I myself notice that HPS tends to make a more "greasy" bud almost whereas the LED makes very "crystally" buds.. Not sure if thats just me or what.

One thing I can say for sure is blooming using 720 watt Growers Choice I've seen way stronger plants throughout their life and less maintenance as far as staking, netting etc. The yield differences are at best 10% loss but I'm also spending several hundred less dollars on air conditioning.
Tweak your environment slightly and you should be seeing yield go up from hps, if its a 1 for 1 replacement in watts. We saw about 15% increase, on perfect growconditions, comparing 2x600w hps to 3x240w led fixtures over same area. But thats in weight, if you just eyeball it the led bud looks less as its more dense (as long as youve done it right, some leds do grow flimsy weak bud).
Generally you just need more heat, +81F, and adapt the growstyle a bit (flower slightly larger plants as they stretch less, make sure your rootball is same size as your hps plants were).
The problem is to get your plants to drink as fast as hps plants, and allways have temps up, or the plants metabolism will not keep up with the light.

P.S I'm assuming you're talking 1000/1150 Watt HPS (Single Ended / Double Ended). I do understand there are 600 watt options but at that point you'd certainly be losing yield compared to the higher power 720 watt LED fixtures you can get out there.

Excellent advice and this is something I'm working on managing. Growing in an unfinished basement does give me some advantages (not having drywall etc) although the temperatures do get pretty hot with 6 x 1000w DE HPS Gavita (Bloom Room) and 6 x 300 watt LED panels (VEG ROOM) even with a 3 ton mini-split.

So you're saying with LED or HPS an increased yield would be achieved @ 81 F Leaf temperature or Room temperature?

What Temp & Humidity range do you run? Here are mine:
Lights On: 75-80 F - 50-55% Relative Humidity
Lights Off: 65-68 F - 50-55% Relative Humidity

I've noticed keeping these temps & humidity levels has worked out great. I do notice higher temperatures seem to definitely make happy plants but I think they like to chill off a bit at night.

Growing with led and hps in same environment can be a challenge. Leds need higher temps than hps as they lack IR heat on the cannopy. For led, bump your temps up over 81F, especially in flower or high light intensity.
If you dont there can be problems with less transpiration: less drinking, less nutes less yield.
But also low metabolic rate, the plant can simply not keep yp with the light, and goes a bit palish and light green and general signs of not happy.

One of my lights went to a guy who does 4x4 with 600w hps, high temps; 30-32C and high co2. He is slaying it on the second go, first round he did 1.86g/w based on 600w led, but he could only maintain this intensity for a short time, mostly lower.

Its hard for me to compare with the 1000w, i havent tried them.

I grow under 1,150 watt DE Eye Hortilux in Gavita fixtures. I usually pull 2# per/light consistently regardless of strain. I dont really grow "high yielders" I'm more of a medicinal/potency grower and it took me 2 years to find my current genetics that I've stuck to. I appreciate that advice. I'm going to attempt the higher temperatures and see how it goes. I just hate working in the heat haha and my results are already pretty good.

Oh btw yield under Growers Choice ROI-E720 last run was 4 Lb from 4 plants in #7 pots. They do get slight side lighting from the HPS but likely not enough to boost any yields.. lol

That is awesome yield, i cant make your numbers work for me, how is that 10% less than the hps. 4# is not a yield problem, no sir

That led yield had to been a 5 by 5 area im about to try something similar with 4 #10 pots hpcc i run 3 720s a 630 cmh a 240 watt carson led with uv and a 1000 watt se in my flower room my last run on 2 720s and 6 5 gallon bucket plants with canna coco i got 52 ounces it was roughly 4 by 8 canopy and that was with co2 maybe my canopy temps were to low or sometbing
