Growing at home. Worried about smell.

I’ve been growing for 3 years now at a secluded location but I just recently made a new grow box at my house. I am the home owner. I just need to keep it from the wife haha. She knows I smoke on the daily but not for free, I think she would freak if she knew I grow my own. We live in CT. Anyways I always wanted to have two plants going. I can only have one at my current spot so I felt down in my man cave in the basement of my house would be ok for a second. My new box is a replica of my other grow box I made but slightly upgraded. Newest box is a 2x2x4 enclosed box inside a fairly large closet. The biggest upgrade to the box is a 4” phresh carbon filter connected to an AC infinity cloudline intake fan. Both rated for 200 whateverthehell. The air cycles into the closet, not outside. Should I worry about smell or will the carbon filter do the job for 1 plant. I do plan to SCROG. Bud is going to be either blue, purple, or silver haze. I’ve done purple at my other place and it got stinky but I don’t have a carbon filter on that set up. I will still avoid growing purple at the house so it’s down to blue or silver haze. Was more so leaning to blue haze since silver can get skunky. Any input would be great.

Hey there neighbor! I live in the same state and also grow my shit illegally in a basement. Best place in the house imo. A carbon filter will help kill most of the smell for most of the grow but no matter what you do there's still gonna be a whiff of dank in the final few weeks. Incense and air freshners can help cover that up though. Don't try to get low stink strains because they all stink if you do it right.
The most important thing is to get an inline fan powerful enough to push/pull and exchange the air and heat in the grow box very quickly. Something rated at 300 cfm or higher. You can also add another inline filter for intake with a lower cfm fan if needed for added stealth....air is filtered both going in and out. With double filtration in the bloom area and there's virtually no smell outside the room. But if you put your face in certain cabinets upstairs you can still get a whiff of dank because I never really sealed it. Sealing all the cracks in the bloom area with silicone caulk could help in this regard.

The fan and filter I got are both rated for 205cfm. I don’t have the funds to go bigger or add another pair. For my grow space and 1 plant I would think the filter should work great. Yes I’m aware the last few weeks will smell the most. If I need to mask it with una gel or incense then that’s what I’ll do.

JustDreamin,
I'm going to give you marriage advice. If your wife finds out...you will not only be sneaking behind her back, but also lying to her. If your marriage can survive that...go ahead. And if your marriage won't survive her catching you...do it anyway. It may be a way to get rid of her...so you can get a new wife who will let you grow. 8-)

The fan / filter combo will work great for the most part. My concern is when it comes time to chop. Let me say that I also use AC Infinity's w/ Phresh filters and they work like magic. But as soon as I open my tents for a while and start doing shit, it stinks up my whole basement. When I chop, trim, etc is when the smell is the strongest.

I suppose if you have a way to chop those plants and do the post-grow work like (dry, cure, trim, etc) somewhere else it would work fine.

Remember, happy wife = happy life.

I have and had nothing else to hide from my wife in our time together BUT THIS. Knowing she knows that i enjoy smoking...she would tell me to get rid of it. Tho I would then argue the money Ive been able to save. LOL

If Im able to make it that far....I would chop everything down and bring it to my other location to trim dry and cure.

I grow in a legal state (mass), but I still try to control the stank. The carbon filters/fans work well for growing, but as others have noted there comes a time when you have to cut, cure, and trim. At those times, the house is pungent even though I run a room fan/filter combo (just recirc's).

It ain't no secret when it's time to trim. But my wife/family is fully on-board, so it's more a courtesy than anything else.

Probably the best thing you can do is choose a strain not know for stank. I'm sure the old school growers know strains that put out less odor but still have a kick.

Im getting a bunch of seeds from ILGM so if it does become stinky and extra help from odor eaters dont work early on i will cut her down. Id love to have two plants growing but unfortunately I dont have to space for another growbox at my other location. I have one there now thats really discrete but having a second there would look a little suspicious.

Ozium will kill smell in a room, but it will also kill scent on the flowers if you recirc it onto the plants. It's old school, but it works.

Yea Ive got a can at my other location. Stuff works great. I wouldnt spray it in the grow box or the closet the growbox is in. just the rest of the basement with a quick 1-2 sec spray. My other spot is a warehouse with a bunch of artists who rent rooms. Luckily nearly everyone smokes weed in the building lol. But we do have one guy down the hall who complains so to keep the heat off my bands room i use ozium. And honestly out of the 3 years growing there I only had to use it on my last grow. purple haze. to me it didnt stink up the band room at all tho. Always smelt like a warehouse would ya know? Either way I use it there along with other odor eaters and the dude stopped complaining.

Remember its her house also.just sayin. is it worth it?
Life is a series of trade offs. Just don't sell it to her as" my girls downstairs in the box"....

For a single plant that should suffice for now; was thinking of in the future if you decide to keep growing you can easily expand as/if needed. Either way it won't be easy to hide for too long. If she would leave you for growing a pot plant then she would probably also leave you for lying about it when/if she finds out.
I'm so thankful my old lady loves cannabis as much if not more than I do. She used to hate me growing but now she helps me trim and make edibles. It's a labor of love....

The few factors of moving this new box from my house to the band spot is power consumption. Besides all the equipment that’s on when we practice. We also have to ACs in the summer plus a mini fridge running. I’m not worried about using power...but more worried about tripping breakers. I can make the new box look discrete but the fact there’s two boxes in the room could also raise some eye brows. My band mates know what I do there. It’s if our property manger decides to stop by. Granted he’s a big pot head and I haven’t had an issue for the 3 years growing there. He’s never had to go into our room. And actually needs to give us 24 hour notice.

I don’t have the funds for another filter. My thought was to run with it here at home and if it starts to smell when I get to flower I would put some ona gel around. If that doesn’t work I would then move my box to the band spot.

I’m gonna figure out space at my band spot and move it there. What’s a couple extra lights and a fan. I can just fine it so whenever we have practice the lights are off in the box to lighten the load. I just need to make this box blend in like the other.
