Growing for Mothers -- Is this OK?

I've got a kind of odd (maybe not?) situation here and I'm wondering if you think what I'm doing can be done any better.

My place is being renovated so I'm currently staying at my parents' home in the basement, which is pretty much separate from the regular goings-on of the rest of the home.

Well, it just so happens that it was while I am here that I became interested in growing, so of course I couldn't wait to get started (I'm hoping my renovations will be done within another few months--it is a big project). Anyway, I set up a decent little ebb/flow setup and ordered some seeds (and now ordered some more).

I just have CFLs running here, but I do have a 400W Digital Setup sitting down at my place that I don't plan on bringing here. So what I am doing is growing from seeds, but I don't plan on going past the veg. stage of growth. I have some White Rhino seeds, some AfghanxMazar (they were free), and now I have some Strawberry Cough and Orange Bud coming.

What I plan on doing is growing them and then taking a couple clones of each when I can to determine the sex. If I have any females, I'll keep the best of each strain and just keep them in veg until I can move back in to my place and then flower them or start new clones from them.

Do you think it is okay to keep these plants in Veg like this for a few months for this reason? I just want to practice/hone my skills, get some good mothers, and that way I'll be set for when I can get everything set up in the new place and have a few different strains up and running, ready to take clones...

Sound good? I'll have way more than I need for my self, so if I find anyone to be local I'm happy to share!

C'mon... nobody can help me out?

Is it reasonable to grow and try to get 4 good mothers mature (best female from each strain) while I'm here (and can't flower here) or should I go about it in a different way?

I just figure if I have 4 nice mature females, then when I get back into my place I can take some cuttings, put them in the new flowering room/area I'll set up, and be ready to roll!

I guess the alternative is to just shut everything down here and wait and start from scratch when I move back into my place... but that seems kind of wasteful since I've got some plants growing here already.

Man, I can't WAIT to flower and harvest. I am learning a lot just doing what I'm doing for now though.

hey pac... imo you'd be doing yourself good to have these mothers ready, I don't see any issues with keepin the mothers in veg until you move back into your own place... my only concerns would be A- your parents house, maybe not the best idea if they dnt know B- in three months of veg these plants will be fairly large, my mother is about 4-5 mos and she is a big bitch already, just be careful getting these back to your place, I once droven 600 miles to pick up clones and a motherplant, not a fun roadtrip back full of plants...
To me this sounds like it will give you something to do growwise until you can fulfill your plans to grow some dank ass nugg, plus you'll be at least a month ahead of the game when you get back, you can simply cut some clones, veg maybe a week or two, and have some kill 8 wks after that... As long as you address the issue with the parents, id say sure why not... GL with your grow sir, it is an amazing high in itself!!

Thanks--size was/is one of my areas of concern as well. I am hoping to trim them back quite a bit once I determine which are female. If anyone here has a good link to a thread on trimming, etc. I'd appreciate it.

I'm only about 5 minutes from my place, so I should be able to bag the plants and transport them easy enough, as long as I keep their size manageable. I don't want to kill them by cutting them back too much though...which is why I'm looking for a good trimming thread!
