other than starting my seeds and clones indoors under a grow tube, I am an outdoor grower. The last couple of years i have lost over 80% of crops due to rips, cops, weather, animals, etc....I do not have my own land where i can protect my investment I am forced to seek other ways, atleast for now..

I know of a 2bedroom trailer available for $450 a month up in the country..i would like to rent this place out and start a decent sized grow op..The problem is I really don't know how much to expect per plant under how much light indoors...outdoors i could get anywhere from a 1/2 lb to 1lb per plant i know that is not true of indoors.

i'd like to get around 2lbs per month give or take.

basically, how do i accomplish this indoors?

thanks

sounds like you will exceed the normal electric bills at this house. to pull 2 lbs a month you will need 4000 or so watts. most indoor plants will net about 2 oz or about 1 1/4 lbs per meter. this is just a guideline but also a realistic goal.

how how about all the cash for this hardware.???

in order to seriously achieve 2lbs/month, you're going to need atleast 2 1000watt HPS (preferably switchable) and 2 light movers. you can set up 2 huge patches of herb and have the light movers do their job on 30 second intervals. my buddy did 1 1000watt HPS + light mover and got about a pound off roughly 20 plants. in all honesty, you might be setting your sights too high for a first indoor grow - especially considering how much you're going to have to spend; two 1000watts are gonna be around $600 and then you have to factor in soil and nutrients for 50 plants. yikes, id get a single 1000watt hps + light mover and try to do about 20 plants. the thing is, with a light mover the buds might be fluffier and less dense. so youll average 1-2oz per plant. this is all subject to vary though, i agree with the above poster on his recommendation of 4 1000watts if you dont use the light mover.

well as far as the money goes either way i have to buy the soil, guano, crystals, etc.... so that'll be the same...all the indoor equipment would just be an investment that i am ready to make.. 5-6k on equipment is not going to hurt. i will however be able to skip the manual labor of digging 25 2'sft holes which is a HUGE plus, like i said i have been growing outdoor for quite some time, but times are changing....

what i am thinking about is what budsmoker said about drawing too much power in a 2br trailer..i do not plan on living there so it will only be a grow house... what kind of places do you guys recommend to do these grows?? commercial? say maybe rent out a garage or something? but then i would think 4000W consumption at 3AM would stand out..

My goal is to set something up away from my house. Have it be completely automated. i would only want to have to visit once a week or so. people say hydro is better for this..i personally would rather grow in soil but i would try organic hydro alternatives...

so let's say instead of using 2 1000W in the flower room say 4x8 (? sounds like enough going by the comments) i use 3 600W 12/12 would that be good enough ?? in the veg/clone room say 2 400W 18/6 plus the clones would have their same setup i have now shelf system with grow tubes and humidity boxes.. these are just me thinking outloud

Well get yourself 4 1000watters and about 50 clones and go to work man. If you got the funds go for it... post pics too

have you read the thread? its not about the money, its the power consumption for a 2br trailer? 4000W may be too much...

maybe you could find a good deal and invest on a nice lil generator then you wont even have an elec. bill

why would you buy 3 600watts instead of 2 1000watts? doesnt really make much sense considering how much you intend to grow. in the veg/clone room you can get away with 2 400watts or even one 600watt if theres like 15 plants (for VEG, not flower). but why would you only want to visit the grow spot once a week? first of all, a trailer is out of the question for any more than one 1000watt, the power consumption and overall sketchyness of the operation make it not worth it. running 4 1000watts in a trailer would definately result in a fire. you should use a basement, thats really the only thing i can think of - i use my bathroom  but seriously though, dont go buy 3 600watts when you could have 2 1000watts, you're buying an extra ballast for nothing - as well as missing out on 400 extra watts of juice. i wouldnt leave the plants unattended for a week til its time for nutrients though, but thats just me. i like keeping an eye on the operation, timers are trustworthy but 2 or 4 1000watts is the type of grow op you dont want to screw up.

no basements here :( i guess i could visit it more if needed.....ok so the trailer is out...now i have no problem renting out a house but that'll cost more and i will need to get every bit of the 2lbs. so i need a 4000W flower room, 1200W veg/ clone + everything else.. what kind of place could i rent out that wouldn't draw attention using that much power on set times??

i don't know for sure but from what i've read 3 600W gives more lumens and better economy that 2 1000W but i have no first hand knowledge of that...

3 600 watt lights will cover more area than 2 1000 watters plus you can put them closer to the plant.
true, but the buds wont be as dense as it would be under a 1000watt. since this guy is after quantity, you might be able to get more with 3 600 watts, but not if you use the light mover technique i spoke of earlier. putting 3 600watts on 3 individual light movers is alot tougher than setting up 2 - but they are both very acceptable methods

option 1.) 2 1000watts on 2 light movers
pro: quadruple the growing space
con: possible fluffy buds

option 2.) 3 600watts w/ no light movers
pro: possibly denser buds
con: alot less space to grow

id say you could get a huge stretch of herb under 2 light movers, i honestly dont know where you could grow all of this though - maybe rent out a small house w/ a basement and use an upper room for veg and the basement for flowering. you could also mix&match; maybe use 2 600watts on light movers or any other combo - check the faq for lumen/per square foot, i think you want somewhere around 100w/square foot.

1000w of light is pretty meaningless for a 4 x 10 room. Two 400w would be better in that situation.

he's not gonna yield 2lbs/month w/ 2 400watts, although i do agree about the space. ncjeepin - you need a bigger room  big enough to handle 2 thousand watts or 3 600watts. to yield anywhere near 1lb/month youre gonna need around 20 plants, if you wanna set up a 1000watt or 2 600watts with a light mover you could maybe away with it..depending on various other factors, like nutrients. also, get hortilux-eye bulbs and kool bloom additives.

i'm not set with 1000's, 600's, or even a 4x8 space.. i will rent a place to suit my needs, but it seems to grow 2lbs i'll need somewhere around 5000 watts i'm just trying to figure out where to grow this.. a house i guess would be the best bet but still 5000 watts for a house i think is gonna raise flags but again i have no idea...

what do they use if growing commercially? generators? (i could i guess bury the generator and use kinda like a 4wd snorkle to allow the engine to breathe.. but i think that will still be loud..maybe i should just stick with what i know... i have to look into laws and privacy policies and what not but how do you indoor guys sleep with all the risk in your house...

i am considering growing indoors if it can be safely grown on a somewhat larger scale, i am used to once a year 20+lbs at once so for me to grow indoors i would need atleast 2lbs per month at minimum is this safely possible..
