Growing in Working Fridge?

fridges work on a motor that starts up to cool the fridge with refridgerant gas when the thermostat temp level starts to rise. the motor would stay on permanently and will overheat the heatsink on the rear of the fridge that draws the heat away (looks a bit like a thin black radiator), the motor will overheat too, and it would be a constant battle cool versus warmth.
now a large non working sealed fridge or large chest freezer, that would be perfect.
drill a small hole and then cut a duct hole with a jigsaw using a metal blade on the side or rear at the bottom of the fridge to accept the inlet fan duct and another on the top or rear top for the outlet duct and carbon filter and draw air in one side and out of the top.
no need to worry about smell as your ducts will be sealed to the fridge with duct tape inside and out and the fans will push cool air in and warm air out.

If you are talking about a fridge with food in it I'd be very very skeptical, there's so many things that could go wrong. Just seems like you'd have to go way out of your way. If you try it put up a journal.

I would think if you could keep it on the lowest setting, I dont know what that is but if you could get like maybe 50 degrees and heated the roots that would work. I grew some out in my green house last winter with day temps low 50's and night temps low 40's. They did pretty good, lots of purple colors and zero bugs!

If you kept it air tight and added co2 I don't see how it would over heat.

lol, I was pretty much thinking about keeping the plants at a cool temp throughout their whole life, but yeh your right, with so much heat, the fridge would just run and run, eventually overheating..

an old non working fridge would be a great place to grow weed.
the door is airtight when closed and you can cut holes for inlet and outlet fans.
as for thinking about growing plants in a working fridge with food in, this idea is just preposterous.
either you would die of food poisoning cos the fridge was too warm for food, or the plants would freeze to death, Brrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr.
reminds me of the bud light tv advert on you tube. check it out " bud light funny fridge advert " there are 2 different ones.

i googled this picture.

I'm the kind of guy who likes new ideas and have found several ways things don't work but occasionally I find a way to make it work.
Now if you took this working fridge cut two holes on either side and used a cooltube there wouldnt be any heat produced in the fridge.
It wouldn't be very stealth looking, thats for sure but with added co2 I think this would work.

I agree it wouldn't be the easiest way to go but suppose you lived in an insect infested area or the desert. It may be a way to go.

What do think about this. You take a side by side fridge carefully cut the inside middle wall out (leave about 2" in front there are feon lines there that runs from top to bottom). A hole for vent in and at least 80 cfm fan for vent out. I would use the doors since there are no feon lines there. Use CFLs or flourescents for lights, to keep heat down. Use a temperature controler (look at a homebrew store) put the probe where you are confortable. I would recommend shielding the heat from the lights from contact with the fridge or good fire insurance.

i personally think on a low setting, it would and should work, theres no reason it shouldnt

im considering using an old fridge thats on its ass and doesnt really work optimally but still use it for food and stuff

im only considering it to bring out the purple hues, love coloured weed!!bongsmilie

Heres an idea the fridge could be fitted with lots of tubing running through the inside and i mean lots of tubing, and then bore 2 holes and run the 2 ends of the tubing out and attach a water pump to one peice of tubing and run the other into your hydro tank, and there ya have it folks a cheap and very effective water cooler!

Ya could prob get an old fridge for well nothing so all ya would have to do is pay for a water pump and a few rolls of hose pipe, what yas think?

O yea no growing in a fridge would be crap its way to small dont ya think?
