growing mediums

ok can i use steel wool as a growing medium?

NOOOOO! steel wool rusts and rust effects pH.

i kinda figured it was a stupid question but i still had to ask...can i buy a cheap growing medium and plant food from k-mart maybe and if not where should i go

Hydroton fired clay pebbles are relatively cheap and are a good choice in grow medium. Rockwool is also cheap but harbors mold and bacteria if conditions aren't near perfect. Hydroton can also be rinsed and re-used
