I'd say one bulb for each plant for the first 2 weeks, then add another to each plant. Then continue to add one more CFL every 4 weeks. This is such a rough guesstimate. You really need to do a little homework on lighting to figure out your own needs. BTW, those lights I was talking about... let's say they're 24w CFLs.

I woukd get a 400w MH and Hps dual light and it will take thru your whole grow without having to add lights every week.

x2 you can use this lamp/setup forever, every grow or anything u want to grow u can use this and it is for life... $150-250 well worth spent if you want to grow and have large yields.. you will be much more happy when u harvest 4x as much as if u grew with cfl's

For CFL you are looking at about 100-150 W per plant, with 4 plants, you will be pulling 400-600 inefficient watts of power fgrom the grid. Invest in the HID lights mentioned above, they wil be cheaper and better producers in the long run!

400w hid in a closet? not sure thats such a good idea. your temps could get way too high. cfls would be more manageable. unless of course you want to spend $ on ventitlation too. you could always do a diy job on a cooltube i guess, but where would the ducting go?

I have a 400W in my closet. I vent into my crawlspce, but you can use an attic/ducting out the bathroom vent too. I have a $30 fan that exhausts at 250CFM. I have not air conditioning, and I keep my room at or below 80F.
You don't have to be fancy with a small grow like this. I slap a homeade carbon filter on my fan, and it pulls the air straight down with no smell at all. I just cut a hole in my floor, duct tapped the fan to the floor to seel it. And voila, I now have a negative pressur grow room.

thanks, good info. i plan to cut a hole in the top of the closet to extract air out of, and a hole on the side of the closet at the bottom for the intake. should keep it stealth this way but my main issue is how to lightproof these holes...
