the plant has been in flowering for about 8-9 weeks now, i have about id say 30% yellowing leaves (the pictures are a week old), and under a microscope the trichomes are still getting a cloudy milky look, and very few amber colored. so im thinking at least another week.... more... but just want some opions cause this is my first grow, and i dont want to pick to early.

Cloudy and Amber trichs?

I 'd harvest now!

TRICHOME HARVEST CHART

of couse someone that likes to argue, will argue with this post.

YOU CAN GO BY A CALANDER, AND IT WILL BE BETWEEN 8 AND 9 WEEKS FOR MOST INDICA.
You can buy a $10 lighted battery operated 10X microscope at Radio Shack to examine the trichs.
You can wait until all the hairs are reddish or browish or dark beer colored.

again, all the above are rules of thumb and many will argue this, but until you've done a few grows and learn any better, this is good advise.

I don't stop watering before harvest...just water normally, but use plain water.

All you really need to do if your growing in soil (too lazy to go see if you mentioned that or not) is flush it once at the beginning of the week, then water with plain PHed water for the rest of the week.

Then it's flushed, or mostly flushed. Good job!

First grow was a success, looks like a lot of research paid off.

If you use use 3x the pot and run plain water for the rest of the week they'll be just fine. Should be some great smoke. The worst taste is nitrogen and it should be pretty depleted of that by now. Sometimes I'll even give a leaf a little chew right before I start flushing as a reference point. After a week, chew a leaf again and you'll see what I mean.

Some people don't buy into that, but you can definitely tell the difference when the nutes are gone. Didn't you grow organically?

Depends how you like your high, but id chop em down any day now. As for flushing, i always hear people talk about it when it comes to harvest time, but what exactly is flushing before harvest?

Flushing is the attempt to remove the harsh chemicals in your nutrient solution from your buds.

You basically just starve the plant and make it feed off it's stored nutes so that you don't have to smoke them later. Just water with plain water for the last week, that's flushing.

Oh thanks. Im probably not going to water that much toward the end anyway so more THC will be produced. Does anyone know if watering less during the end will make the dry process go faster? Just was thinking that might help me a ton.

I've never heard of watering less so it will produce more THC. Do you have any solid references that this is true? I would think that you want the strongest healthiest plant possible, it already thinks the season is coming to an end, it's going to put it's effort in to grow flowers, I would think cutting the water isn't going to affect this positively.

Read eza's thread on THC. Im pretty sure watering less makes the plants get fairly warm from the lights. Therefore the resin glands will work even harder and produce THC, which is a sort of "sunblock" for the plant, keeping the temperature lower.
