from what I read from the sellers of the led lights, it seems to help them grow faster? no heat? wow? no fan needed? blue and red spectrum? sounds too good. has anyone tried this though?

LED grow lights are not worth the money at this point in time. Fluorescent, MH and HPS is what you want.

I use LED lights for vegging and they are great...during flowering I use them with a 400 w HPS or 2 (depending on how many plants I have going)... still it saves a load of $$$ and I can veg in the cupboard with no heat problems.... plants seem to love it :mrgreen:

You can get similiar results in a cupboard with a 42 watt CFL and the price difference is amazing. Whatever floats your boat.

If ya wanna see what LED's can produce just look at my threads. They make unbeatable supplemental lighting, giving you the ability to add tons of extra lumens to current HPS/MH/CFL grows without danger of adding heat or taking up space. Plus once the prices come down and the bulb wattage's go up, which is already happening, they will be in every good garden suppelemental or otherwise. They say the LED U.F.O. is equivalent to a 400 watt HPS, but it isnt. My experiences show it is more like a 250-300 watt equivalent. Which is still 2-3x more efficient than HPS. The UFO contains 1 watt LED's also, many newer LED models are using 3 watt LED's that are stronger and penetrate better, lie the pyrocon I believe, and its even cheaper than the UFO. As for the huge argument about LED's, it seems it's more money based then how well they work. If ya have the loot they pay for themselves quick, others feel its to much to invest at once and want to wait. Obviosly though we have people that bash them for no reason without ever using them, but thats just ignorance, the proof is in the pudding.

DUDE!! i need ur help. I checked out ur grow. it's fuking awsome. I think i need more lights, since u had 1k watt cfl and an ufo. I was thinking of getting a blue and red led lights from ebay, since they were cheaper than ufo. now i think i need more cfls in my grow room. I only have about maybe 200w total with cfls with 4 plants. How many of which lights should i get?

Thanx, my loose rule of thumb is to use as many light as is possible, without overheating the growroom or taking up to much grow space. I like to use at least 100 watts per medium plant or 200 watts per larger sized plant. Again this is a loose rule. If I can fit more in, by all means. Hence the benefits of the LED's, they are small and portable.

every time i look at someone else's plants, they are all big and shit. my plants never get that big or grow as fast as theirs. I think I need more lights, but the problem is that more lights mean that i have to pay more for electricity. how is your electric bill like?

LED's are very cheap to run... 1w per bulb x 20 =20w 3w x20=60...I'm not sure how it translates exactly but 20w = 200w if anyone knows for sure,,then let us know :^)

LEDs may be the future but they are not the present by any means. They cost too much and dont work nearly as well as and MH or HPS and nearly is an understatment. Do not be fooled by the shit people post about LEDs.

Exactly what he said.

I'm not even sure if they will be in the future, the LED was invented in 1920 although not really put into practical use until 1972. LED's have already had plenty of time to be the next big thing.

If you think they are expensive now, then just look back to when they were invented. The whole reason they are being experimented with now is that the price of high power LED's are waaay cheaper then they ever have been. And just for the record, HPS & MH don't work nearly as good as LED's watt per watt. If LED's were cheap enough to get a 400 watt system, it would utterly blow away ant 400 watt HPS, which blaitantly shows it is much more powerfull watt for watt. My 90 watt UFO, which is a first generation model using 1 watt LED's, gives a 300 watt HPS a run for its money. If ya don't like them cause they are expensive thats one thing, but don't bash there potency just because ya don't have any data to support what ya say. I do... as I said the proof is in the pudding.

Why do you guys go around claiming you are the only ones with data when the only data you have is what the advertising on the UFO light says. Please don't go making false claims about the knowledge of members on this board because there are some very bright people on here.
