yeah i used it for the first time time on my last grow and im never going back to soil, i find the advantage of coco is that it breaths good so the roots get lots of oxygen, i use redigrow moisture control formula, what ive had problems with in soil is that they have a lot of stuff like worm castings and chicken shit....which is good but sometimes the ratios are not good for growing like say your fast growing plants start to have nitrogen defficency so you give them more nutes and then you end up overdosing on other nutes, or say the soil has a lot of organic stuff in it so when you go to flower a month or so in the stuff in the soil is still breaking down and producing nitrogen when your trying to flower, i mean yeah you can do great things in soil but ive just found coco to be far superior in terms of the amount of control you have over the plants, i use general hydroponics nutes and had no problems on the last grow and the plants in coco outgrew the ones in soil by far so im sold on the stuff, when you use coco keep the ph a little lower than you would in soil, i used 5.5-6 and it worked killer

coco in australia is mainly manufactured by canna (although there is sri-lankan coco around as well), for me it's preferable to clay rocks and and soil/perlite mix because of its water and oxygen retention, and its resistence to disease.. even in ridiculously hot conditions u only need to run your pump for 1 minute every 3 hours or so, it holds most of the water but also gets plenty of oxygen to the roots..

two plants in my last grow were clayrocks and the other two canna coco, the difference in speed during the veg stage was noticeable but nothing major, the canna coco plants were a little closer between nodes as well, in flowering there was not a visible difference, although im sure it would be measurable.. but for me the disease resistance & using less nutes is better.. it's also significantly lighter than clay rocks or soil...

and you dont have to mix perlite with coco, although you can, im thinking about maybe doing on plant next time with this mix just to settle the myth.. (or better my crop in future). alot of people in australia, and plant nurseries, use coco for outdoor potted non mj plants as well, and it lives fine on a large watering (with a drip tray), per day

im converted, its cheap & i used to hate having to clean clayrocks... although i still want to do a big dwc or aero grow

regards

Always flush your coco before useing it.
Some coco has a very high salt content.
If possible soak it in water and test the EC of the water to be safe.

I use it, I switched from rockwoll to coco. Its better.

Con? Hmm. There must be one. I guess PH is sensitive. You must have a way of measuring PH and some PH down. In soil PH is less of a problem.

Pro? Fast growth like hydro. Resistant to power outage. Can be mixed with garden soil for disposal.
