Ok so I made a cheap home made hash press, and pressed my 75micron kief into 2 gram pucks. Should I take a lighter and kinda darken the outside of the puck, or just leave it blonde?

Yeah I am using a 1/2 piece of PVC that a nickle fits in nice and tight. I just place the nickle in, put it on concrete, fill up with about 2grams, place another nickle on top, and hammer the shit out if it using a socket a little smaller than the nickle. seems to have worked pretty damn good... Just didnt know if I should melt the outside if that would preserve it better for long term storage or not

I fully understand that, however the nickles were covering the hash, the pvc just acted as a tube. I looked for a steel tube, however I could not find one with the inside diameter I needed, only had 4 grams of kief to press, and so I dont think it would be an issue. I do plan on buying an actual hash press for my next batch, it was more just an experiment than anything, but I do hear what your saying fadedawg, and appreciate you looking out.

I pressed pure kief one day so hard, that when I took it apart...it looked like my press walls, and the puck I used to crush the kief was covered in liquid oil. pure honey oil straight from squeezed crystal. not sure what it was from but boy did it look good. there wasnt enough to scrape and smoke.
but it makes me wonder... what if you pressed somethin like 20-30 grams of pure kief.... really really tight and hot, if you could squeeze a droplet out of that kief?

looking back on it, it looks like GW and VP were talking about it rosin before rosin

the term rosin just recently got popular. being dabbable and anyone can do it at home it jumped pretty quick in this "new" market
back but a few years ago we had just known it as a hot melt extrusion. rosin was obviously around but we wouldnt apply that term that to hash oil as traditional rosin isnt really what you want, a solid resin thats lost lighter compounds. you can hold a lighter over a bud and see the oil residue drip.i mean these ideas are quite old. i remember talking about "rosin" when i really started in the early 90's
a few studies were done in early 200x's as well. on what we call rosin today 10+ years later
i know i dont normally advocate rosin. so to be clear, im not hating here. just saying its no newer than any other method. just gained alot of popularity in the last year

No shit. It was popular in europe in the 80's. But it was never to the tech and quality it is now. It's like Frenchy popularized press hash. And everyone calls it Frenchy tech. That method has been around for thousands of years.

whereits at now is crude bho and whipping.
advance to a vac oven
then closed loop.
thats what i expect.. its in its infancy

Theres already plenty of folks using vac ovens to control consistency and texture of rosin. There is honeycomb rosin, budder rosin and so on.
